Alright, if a painting is within the area of public domain, and hence faithful 2D reproductions of it are similarly within the public domain, am I allowed to use such a reproduction as my profile picture? Even were it not of proper age to be in the public domain, an argument could be made for fair use. That being said, legal right to use it and ability to use it within site rules are two entirely different things. I see a prohibition against “commercial photos or artwork” but that’s a bit vague in my estimation. Does that mean 'commercial photographs and commercial artwork' or simply 'commercial photographs and artwork generally?' Can someone iron that out for me? By the same token, what are the rules on avatars? Are they governed by the same rules?
