I found out my library's ebooks are epub files and not easily compatible with Kindle. I want to read in bed, darn it! >_<

Does anyone know a fairly easy way to convert acsm files to Kindle or pdf?

I found this: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43900 but once I saw python in the readme.txt I gave up.

Or if someone has jumped through the hoops and is willing to let me send the file to them for conversion, that would be great too.

I've tried one pdf converter but the file needs to be printable which this is not.

Thanks!

KK

you should take a look at the Calibre ebook management application - it organises, converts - and its free!!!

I'm trying Calibre now...I had started with plugin directions that were too complex but maybe it's simpler than I think.

Thanks!

ETA:

I've downloaded the plugins and installed Calibre, but installing the plugins is beyond me:

Where's the wizard?!?

The problem with some of those programs is the text doesn't line up properly and you lose the formatting. What books are you wanting to convert?

Now I've added the plugins but Calibre is still giving me a "no suitable source format was found" error message, so I have not yet reached the point where I could lose formating.

I am on a Charlaine Harris kick and am trying to convert Club Dead.

ETA:

Once I find the epub file (which may be difficult as I downloaded it at work and emailed the acsm file to me) I'll be all set:

To translate library books to use on the kindle.

Join a library that has ebooks to check out. Download their ebook reader program. Download calibre. Download a patch for it called tools_v2.4, install the ineptepub_plug.py

When you download the book from the library it comes on your desktop as an acsm file double click on that and it loads it into your Adobe Digital Editions, you will see the cover of the book in that program.

Next you have to find the actual .ebook (c:users>name of computer>my documents>my digital editions. Then I copied and pasted the epub file to my desktop. Drag it into calibre to translate to .mobi.

Then you email the .mobi book to your kindle address ([email protected]). I had a couple of issues mailing it at the beginning so I plugged in the USB cable and copied the .mobi book directly to the Kindle (it sees it as a hard drive).

I did it!

Thanks all!

I have that series. If you still have trouble shoot me a note. :)

You don't need to email it to your Kindle address. Just plug in the device and you'll see the folder that holds your books. Create a new one under the author's name and copy and paste the file to that directory. When you remove it from the USB you'll see it on the device.

FR

You could get a book...

Why should I pay or wait when I can get e-books in minutes from the library for free?
