ORIGINAL: LaTigresse I am a realist. Dogs, cats, even horses are not meant to live forever. They have very limited lifespans. No amount of money spent at the vet is going to change that. I also believe in quality of life. If my 8 yo pound dog gets a long term illness, she is going to be put down, not medicated, dragging her life out.......for MY selfish reasons. Bottom line, there is no financial gain to prolonging a life that can be humanely ended when the quality of life is less than it should be. What real difference does it make if my dog lives 13 years and gets euthanized due diagnosis of diabetes or 15 years after 2 years of expense and misery? I share your view. Thats why i don't see much of the point in pet insurance. Of course, if your cat would get hit by a car and can survive with a surgery I would go for it, but not in regards to long term illness. I regularly winded up a previous friend over here who tried to persuade me to leave my cats a light on when I go out for work at night time or to leave them music on when I go to work or uni....wtf NO...my cats are cats...I love'em dearly and they are spoiled rotten most of the time, but they are not little humans [8|] She struggled a lot to accept that our view differes a lot in that respect which played a major part in it that we lost contact last year. As mentioned in previous posts I never had pedigree cat before either but got her as one of my cats was a scardy cat and so I could not leave her outside when I went to uni and work due to her panicking once I closed the door or window, which lead to her being extremely clingy when I got home as she was way too much on her own as my 2 boys enjoyed to be outside about 85% of the year; so I was looking for a cat who isn't too keen on going outside either which lead me to my birman cat. I had tried shelter before I got my first two cats but had too much drama. Back home most of my cats were from shelters but there simply rules are very different in rehoming than over here. With my Birman I had considered breeding as I came across a really good breeder where I got her from, but that view changed as it is just not for me. So her litter remains with me and if some of them leave, then only to people I know or to friends of them when I trust their judgement. Most of the time I can easily pay my bills and they had their shots regular in the last 3 years, only right now its a bit of a tiny struggle, but that will get better again.
