One thing about Maher, he is an equal opportunity critic. 

He doesn't just criticize Islam, he criticizes all religions equally.  The week before this show, he criticized Democrats and the liberal media and he had tea party guests (a trifecta to you?).

Why would anyone give Maher's comments even the slightest degree of validity in the realm of politics? He is, after all, simply an entertainer.

Exactly. They are. I pay them no heed. Except, you have to admit, of all mentioned, George Carlin was the funniest and best at entertaining. :)
