Starchild

This is one story that has a lot of potential to raise eyebrows and invite endless questions once the final testing results are brought to light.

This really should go in Random Stupidity.

The comments at the Museum of Hoaxes site are a great read, especially those from the "Australian"; Ashjor's English is way better than this moron, and Ashjor's primary language is Arabic.

You didn't waste money on the book, did you, OP? So what is your take on Homeopathic "medicine"?

Hydrocephaly Claims

Hydrocephaly indiscriminately expands the skull starting at the softest areas--the unfused sutures. The Starchild Skull's sutures were open and healthy at the time of death, meaning that if any internal pressure was present in the cranium it would have expanded first at the suture lines. But the expansion in the Starchild Skull, while symmetrical, is present only in the solid bone plates of the parietals. In fact, there is a pronounced dent at the sagittal suture--as impossible in a Hydrocephalic as it is to blow up a round balloon while leaving a dent down the middle. In addition, Hydrocephaly does not cause natural flattening of the occipital, shallowing and realignment of the eye sockets, compression of the bone, or any of the other abnormal features present in the Starchild Skull.

Additional details at the link.

So could we be talking about the guys with the big eyes, depicted in art and described by witnesses ? (supposedly) And who knows which came first.

But really whether this whole thing has any merit or not it will be met with opposition, because it goes against the single point life theory Earthers hold now.

My thought as well.

That child must have suffered so much before his death.

The utter and rank stupidity of the starchild fraud has been bothering me so I'm going to explain in detail just one reason it is utter bullshit.

The claim is that an extraterrestrial alien mated with a human woman and somehow produced a viable hybrid organism. Now lets get down to the very lowest level of this claim, the DNA. Why would an organism from a completely different ecosystem even have DNA as their method of transmitting genetic data? Even if we assume that nucleic acids are the only way to transmit such data, they're not, there are a lot of different NA molecules what are the odds that two ecosystems would evolve the same molecule?

Now maybe, just maybe, the two ecosystems do use DNA. Organisms on Earth use a 3 nucleotide sequence as the codon. Each codon corresponds to either the start or stop of a protein or one of the 20 odd amino acids used in our biochemistry. There is absolutely no reason that each codon should correspond to any particular amino acid and as a matter of fact our mitochodrial DNA uses a slightly different codon to amino acid correspondance than our nuclear DNA and some other organisms have minor differences as well. Why would an alien ecosystem evolve to use the same 22 amino acids (there are a lot more) and use the same codon to amino acid correspondance as humans when even our relatives here on earth don't?

Simply put the idea that an alien could successfully mate with a human and produce a hybrid organism is ridiculous.

I'll admit to skimming (not the Wikipedia article, but the other one), and I thought it said it was purely alien, not a hybrid, that they found no human dna.

Not that I believe it, mind you, just thought that's what I read.

That is what this is about? I do not tend to watch linked videos.

Unless the aliens are really superb genetic surgeons, that is just not going to happen. And it would have to be a test-tube baby anyways with the possibility of using something like a uterine replicator. And why would it have to be alien male and human female?

The claim had been that it was a hybrid since genetic testing found normal human genetic material. It is possible the liars involved are now trying to ignore those findings and pursue a new avenue to defrauding the gullible.

Oh for fisk's sake. The tin-foil hat people will believe anything.

If you like this kind of thing you might like the book, "Boundary," by Eric Flint and Ryk E. Spoor. They find some dino remains that turn out to be the remains of a BEM.

However, that book is classed as Science Fiction where it belongs.

Kind of a cool concept though.

Every time we get into shit like this there are two types of people involved. One type is open minded, education level notwithstanding. Type one however does seem to know that we do not know everything. Whether qualified or not to make a judgement as to the validity of a claim which may or may not be provable, they accept the possibility that there are things beyond our understanding.

And then there's type two, who seem to purport that we in fact DO know everything. They do not realize that people thought that many years ago when they didn't. They fail to realize that science has advanced and will continue to do so unless we blast ourself clean off this rock. And they also don't realize one more thing, much more important - that if we do know everything then to live on is meaningless. There is no reason for further experimentation or considered speculation, because it is all in the book.

And the beat goes on. Now I feel like playing a little Mowtown !

At first it was because the skeleton was found beside a completely normal skeleton of a human woman who was presumed to be the mother. Testing the adult skull against the child's showed they were from different haplogroups, both were from typical amerindian haplogroups, so now it is unclear what if any relationship the two skulls have to each other.
