At first it was because the skeleton was found beside a completely normal skeleton of a human woman who was presumed to be the mother. Testing the adult skull against the child's showed they were from different haplogroups, both were from typical amerindian haplogroups, so now it is unclear what if any relationship the two skulls have to each other.

Aunt? Cousin? Victims of a village burning? Slaves?

All conjecture of course.

It's possible but I'm not even sure there's any good evidence to tie the two skulls to each other.

My thinking was along the lines of, found dead together and skulls about the same age, so something bad happened. Warfare or slavery fit that. Female relative fits as well.

I am not an anthropologists, so this is all conjecture on my part.

Hmmm. . . found in Mexico. . . could be a blood sacrifice also.

However, alien/human half-breed. . . not so much.

littlewonder -> RE: Starchild (3/19/2011 5:39:33 PM)

yeah I'm thinking wartime sacrifice from opposing tribes/slaves/family from a different tribe....something along those lines.

And I think most anthropologists and scientists have really very little interest in this since it's not some kind of breakthrough or anything. Most have pretty much written this off as a human child with genetic defect or illness.

Not newsworthy for their realm of careers.

Hippiekinkster -> RE: Starchild (3/20/2011 2:23:33 AM)

Some of the Stelae at Monte Alban (Oaxaca) depict medical abnormalities/diseases/conditions. One of them is of a hydrocephalic child. The woman found with the "star"child may have been a "nurse", so to speak. (when touring monuments in Mexico, I highly recommend hiring one of the official guides. One can learn a great deal) I can only guess as to why they were found together. I highly doubt sacrifice or warfare. My guess would be disease.
