I'm always a bit puzzled that anybody thinks that the gun issue is going to break down neatly along party lines like that: a lot of you people are mad keen on guns however you lean politically. Probably more from watching westerns as a kid than history (the old west was notoriously full of advocates for gun control like Wyatt Earp) but there's a mystique about the things there that we just don't have in Europe. Point taken, though. Isn't that part of the reason the "liberal"* Democrats are so ineffectual? They're less homegenous and inclined to goosestep along in unison than the other bunch... *(I know they ain't. You know they ain't. But try telling Sanity or Truckinslave that...)

You arent a liberal, youre a leftist. Most leftists quit calling themselves "Liberals" a very long time ago after they made the term "Liberal" mean someone universally hated (for all practical purposes). So try to get it straight. First you were Communists, then Liberals after the Communists committed all those mass murders. Now youre Progressives, until everyone starts hating Progressives. Next you will probably be calling yourselves Utopians. Give it up already, its a failed ideology, everyone knows that but you and putting lipstick on it wont help.

Nobody is a better poster child for ignorant backwoods drooling-mouth illiteracy than Sanity. I have him on hide, so I have no idea what he babbles, but I do know that it isn't worth my time. There's a tale, from the Darwin Awards, of a small group of drunken Poles (or perhaps Lithuanians, I don't recall which) who were exceedingly drunk, and in possession of chainsaws, betting each other who was the most courageous. The winner cut his own head off with his chainsaw. Sanity would do well to emulate him. I'm not pro-gun, and I'm not anti-gun. Uncle Sam taught me to shoot, and I used to pop tree trunks with a 7.62 I borrowed from my ex father-in-law when I was in my 20s. But I don't hunt, and I've never been so fearful that I felt a need to arm myself against "them". I'm indifferent. But that's not what this thread is about. It's about what a Liberal truly is, and is not. And as the definitions spanning 150 years demonstrate, Liberalism is all about FREEDOM, and how to maximize such. And we Liberals believe in the judicious use of government to prevent exactly what is occuring now, the abandonment of regulation in favor of the rule of small gangs of rich Nobles who have gathered together in the form of "corporations" in order to enrich themselves at the expense of people who actually work for a living.

I pay for my own health insurance. I have worked since the age of 15. I have never had any type of government assistance. So I'll ask you very nicely, Sanity. Do humanity a favor, and get drunk, take a chainsaw, and cut your worthless head off, because you are using valuable oxygen.
