I have declared this to be Dungeon Weekend. I'll be working on turning an extra room into a dungeon. I'm basically looking for ideas, designs (jpg or links), 'must haves' as applicable. I'm leaving it open ended because it's a bit like buying that first car - exciting but I have no experience so whatever comes my way might be considered.

Please feel free to share your own so that some things can percolate in my brain and come up with that, "Ooooh this fits" design.

Do you own or rent? That may have a bearing on how much "remodeling" you can do, and thus the ideas that get generated here.

Rent. BUT it's a house, far enough from others for screaming to be 'less' of an issue. (Wink) I find with most home 'decor' ideas, even if I see something that would be permanent I can often figure out a way to make a temporary change similar, if I like the design.

Acoustics/soundproofing to enhance the music you'll eventually be adding. Also good at hiding screams/moans.

because you rent, you're not going to want to anchor anything really. I have one of those tube frame bunk beds with a full size bottom bed. cut out the top part and modified. good for attaching straps and such. you can also tie up to to the inside of a closed door. just need over and under door anchors.

If you're renting, I agree that anchoring a cross or setting up suspension is probably out unless you are willing to purchase something that stands alone.  Not that hard to do, but you'll have to either build it yourself or have someone build the furniture for you.

One room of My house is converted to dungeon space.  I do have a spanking bench in there as well as clip's sleeping material.  The mattress stands up and can double for play.  The closet in that room is all shelving and I use that space for the various kits that I've broken down types of play into.  One section for medical play, another the kit for fire play, wax, electrical, and so on.  I have other storage drawers for restraints, rope, and various other toys.  Since I can't hang things on the walls either, we borrowed an idea for a stand that allows Me to hang some of My floggers.  The idea is great for someone like Me who goes to a lot of different dungeons and there is never a good way to get the toys out without taking up too much of the space at once.  I can literally hang two dozen mated pairs of floggers or dragon tails off of it at once if I use both the outer and inner hooks.  Great way to keep the toys organized.

Put in hooks in the ceiling.  To hang plants from.  Big, heavy plants.

Mini fridge, both for having ice that isn't melting readily at hand and cool water for aftercare.

I've also always felt that floor to ceiling fabric "drapes" all around the room provided a measure of soundproofing as well as marking the room as not part of the rest of the house. If you cover the door and blackout any windows, it can be delightfully disorienting as well.

some landlords don't mind if you anchor something to a wall -- a friend of mine who also rents had a cross bolted to her wall. she would take it down for inspections and just said that the bolts were for hanging plants. her landlord didn't care as long as she patches any holes before she moves.

check out the plans at www.foxyfurniture.com; if you know a woodworker, you can download the plans they have and make stuff that can be hidden, or that you can just pick up and take with you if you happen to move again.

p.s. -- ceiling jacks or whatever they're called -- cylindrical jacks for raising/bracing ceilings -- can make good attachment points that you can take down and stick in a closet when you're not using them. sometimes they pop up on craigslist. haha =p

Aside from the drapes mentioned, anyone have any experience with this?

I have a little, but I can't think of an option that isn't major construction (sound dampening insulation and/or drywall) or crazy expensive (acoustic tiles) or both. If you've got that kind of cash, I'd go for professional installation.

Soundproofing: Make curtains of egg crate foam. Or stiff, 1+ inch styrofoam which can hang without needing too much in the way of nails/screws.

Since it's a rental, anchors to the floor are probably out.  But without at least one set of chains attached to the wall or ceiling, it's not a dungeon - it's just a room with odd furnishings.

Remember that if you're tying someone to an overhead point, it needs to be able to take their weight. Design accordingly, or you'll bring down the ceiling when they get weak-kneed during play.

Edited to add: Or, get a freestanding suspension frame. I've seen some amazing ones.

one of those freestanding porch swings are great. it is good to sit on outside and if you take out the swing part it is a great frame to tie someone to and can be moved easily

Overnight I had an idea around that actually. There are different screws you can get for hanging things on walls of various weights. I could do that, and the closet in said room is quite open. It'd be easy to arrange all sorts of chains and screws in there. . .since it's a free standing structure one could carefully place floor hardware so that the future holes were hidden by the carpet. The bigger holes in the closet would be, well, in the closet and aesthetically easier to fix and of less concern upon moving.

Note that I don't particularly think that a dungeon, for me, has to have chains hanging to be a dungeon. I prefer bondage, bench whipping, and cages myself.
