DesertRat99, Bob, passed away last night. He will be missed by all whom have ever met him or been part of his life. I have not been to this site for many years, but it was an important place where we met, and where he spoke with so many on the boards.
i love and miss you, Bob.

OMG! He sounded like he was doing fairly well when I last talked to him and that wasn't long ago. I'm freaked. I cannot say anything decent here.

Oh My!   I'm so saddened by this news.    I believe he joined this site at about the same time as I did, and he was always a gentleman, and smart debater.
I'm sad to hear of his passing.[:(]

The DesertRat returns to dust.   I would think as an archeological sorta guy, he would find that poignant.

The site is sorry to hear of his passing. I had already noticed him not posting, but had no idea he was ill. He was an awesome dude. I hope someone is taking care of his kitties?

Aw fuck.  He gave me some suggestions regarding a few pieces of antique pottery that I received from my parents, and was cool in debates. He'll be missed.

I remember Bob's insight and his good manners.  He frequently
would ad comments of real substance to a dialog and do so in a
manner that held up his position without initiating personal attacks.
But I also saw him bite when provoked. 

Our loss here is nothing when compared to those close to him.
My thoughts are with all of you in these difficult times.

I want to add my comments to this news, which I just happened upon while doing a search.

Bob and I communicated in the fall of 2006, and he visited me over Thanksgiving. It was a good visit but Bob was pre-occupied with some health issues.

Our connection ended in January of 2008; he had had surgery and was recovering, which was difficult and was apparent that our connection was not to continue. I am sorry our last words were cordial, about a year and a half later, but not very heartfelt on my part. One hopes that there will be another time, and sometimes, there is not; the words we speak today may be the last.

I cared about Bob, and hope he is in a place of endless archaelogical digs, and cats who love him. He did love his cats, something we both shared. I did care about him.

I just saw this, I must have missed it while I was gone during tax season...

Bob and I were cmail pals for years, and of course I was a huge fan of his cats. I worried over his illness, and was very worried when he didn't post for so long.

I have missed him and will continue to miss him
