Senate Bill 1611 Requires proof of legal status to: - Operate a vehicle in Arizona. Offenders would face a class 1 misdemeanor, 30 days in jail and would forfeit the vehicle to the state. - Enroll a student in any public or private K-12 school. Schools must report violations to law enforcement and the Arizona Department of Education. - Attend an Arizona community college or university. - Get any sort of federal public benefits, including emergency medical services. - Get a vehicle title. - Purchase a new vehicle. - Register a vehicle. - Get public housing. It also requires landlords that receive public-housing funds to evict any resident that allows an illegal immigrant to "reside" in their unit. - Get a fingerprint card. - Get any sort of license in Arizona, including a marriage license. It also: - Requires all individuals that administer or process public benefits to check legal status. Employees or supervisors that fail to report violations face a Class 1 misdemeanor. - Creates a sentence of at least 180 days in jail for stealing an identity for the sake of getting employment. - Permits federal immigration officers or an officer "authorized by the federal government to verify a person's immigration status" to determine immigration status. - Requires employers to prove to the state Attorney General's Office that they are using E-Verify to check the legal status of their employees. Requires the Attorney General's Office to suspend the business licenses of violators. - Requires the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board to revoke the certification of any law-enforcement officer who refuses to enforce Arizona laws.

KenDckey -> RE: AZ SB 1611 AZ is at it again guys lol (2/23/2011 3:31:59 AM)

I agree with the intent but it will never hold water.   I think that this time there are sections that go over the edge.

MrRodgers -> RE: AZ SB 1611 AZ is at it again guys lol (2/23/2011 4:21:14 AM)

I do not see anything so particularly onerous here thus as far as I can see...should survive court challenges.

DomKen -> RE: AZ SB 1611 AZ is at it again guys lol (2/23/2011 9:41:02 AM)

I vehemently disagree with barring children from public education. They have no control over where their parents take them.

popeye1250 -> RE: AZ SB 1611 AZ is at it again guys lol (2/23/2011 4:11:58 PM)

In this state (S. Carolina) you can't get a driver's lisence unless you're in the country legally.
I had to produce the long copy of my birth certificate along with my New Hampshire DL when I first moved here.
The thing is if we stop "giving" things to illegal aliens they won't come here.

honeybadgersub -> RE: AZ SB 1611 AZ is at it again guys lol (2/23/2011 4:17:47 PM)

Illegal immigrants are not illegal "aliens." They aren't from Mars. Illegal immigrants will continue to come to the United States as long as we have jobs that these so called "red-blooded" Americans refuse to do; as long as employers will underpay them under the table. Don't blame the 19 yr old boy who just wanted enough money to put a tin roof on his family's shack. Blame someone who actually has the power the change something.

Master504u -> RE: AZ SB 1611 AZ is at it again guys lol (2/23/2011 4:42:52 PM)

Why isn't that 19 year old boy working in mexico for one of the US companies that moved their business there under NAFTA? Could it be he would not get as much pay in Mexico as in Arizona or any other State in the US? Force US companies that moved down there to still pay minimum US wages to all their employees both from Mexico and any other country.

I agree there are unemployed US citizens that are unemployed because they think the job is below them. Problem is the Unemployment offices say you can keep unemployment until you receive a job that is equal in pay and benefits to your last job. Thus until we cut off unemployment benefits people will not take the first job that comes along.

As for revoking the certification of any law enforcement officer that does not enforce the laws of the state, I think there is no way that will not survive any court challenge.

News flash... they get paid minimum, at least. The Wage Board is a mighty foe. lol... my bossed are discovering this. They dont care of an employee is illegal. They wont report them. What they do care about is that anyone who works gets paid what they are rightfully owed... even the illegals.

And this has been going on for years. Stores have been sued by illegal immigrants for lost and back wages. Ask Wal-mart and Tyson. They can even sue if hurt on the job. Balbuena v. IDR Realty LLC.

And they know these things. So set aside your sobbing towel. They get theirs as well as everyone else... and they should. An honest days labor deserves an honest days pay.

As far as .. "will continue to come to the United States as long as we have jobs that these so called "red-blooded" Americans refuse to do"...

Illegal immigrants work in many sectors of the U.S. economy. According to National Public Radio in 2005, about 3 percent work in agriculture; 33 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (16 percent), and in production, installation, and repair (17 percent).[4]

According to USA Today in 2006, about 4 percent work in farming; 21 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (19 percent), and in production, installation, and repair (15 percent), with 12% in sales, 10% in management, and 8% in transportation.[5]

Exactly what jobs are the majority doing that no one else wants to do?

Those numbers you posted tell you that.

In many areas the kitchen staff of all the chain restaurants is spanish speaking. The same applies to many construction crews and landscapers.

Thus saith the "moderate independent".

Where is all of the cheering for the I-9 audits?  I can't find one word from you on Chipolte recently getting popped.  Seems just in Minnesota something on the order of 700 out of 1200 employees were illegal.  Now the audit has extended to other states.

I can easily see you in the crowd of those who watch the old ICE raids cheering and laughing but condemn the I-9 audits as Government harassing business.

The AZ bills and things of this ilk are unimportant side shows.  When it becomes too detrimental for the business to hire illegals the problem will solve itself.  The focus from the current administration on holding the businesses accountable has been the best direction in ages.

To loons who are somewhere left of Stalin, yes a moderate independent would appear to be on the right.

How long was it you tried to convince everyone you were the middle?

Now did you actually have something to say on the topic?

I have men come in almost daily to apply for cook jobs, dishwasher, expo.... There are not many who would not do those jobs. So, I ask again, what jobs are you speaking about that no red-blooded American will do?

Flc, shows how much you know. I totally support those I-9 audits and think whoever hires illegals should be fined and go to jail!
How about fines of $100,000 per illegal alien hired?
