Yup   My federal income tax doubled.   Nope, I didn't get a pay raise.  Be sure you check your pay stub as you go along.

You got to be kidding me... in 2010 i made slightly more money than 2009, but paid just 5$ more in income tax. Please check your returns again... either you got a lousy accountant or you are plain dis-honest in making this statement....

it isn't my return that I am talking about.   I am reading my retiree account statement (same as a pay stub in military retiree worlds) Which states new pay as of March 01, 2011 my FITW almost doubled.   It missed it by 60 cents doubling so I am trying to be accurate here.  if anyone really doesn't believe me, then I am willing to share a pdf copy with you, but you gotta ask and no I am not gonna post it on CM   lol  Give me another e-mail address and I'll send it.

No, really, that wasn't in the slightest way misleading.

OK  Rule   you have me confused.    It is income tax.   It was involuntarily with held, by the govt for the govt.   I didn't volunteer to double how much I pay in.   I believe i suggested to people to double check their pay stubs (which have little to do with your annual return and a heck of a lot with how much you take home).

Apparently you disagree with telling people that there is a possibility that their income may well be reduced by the govt as was mine.   yes I got 6 days warning.   They may or may not.   Who knows?   Surely not me.

So, exactly what is your problem?   That I had my taxes doubled, or that I reported it to others so that they might feel forewarned, or what?

But let me elaborate.

A reduction in benefits is exactly what you conservatives keep crying about.

See the Wisconsin thread.

A reduction in benefits does not equate to a tax.

Sucks when it hits home though, huh?

Be sure to support those teabagger candidates.

I am still gonna call it income tax, since that is what it is called.   my gross pay wasn't affected.   Not from the fed.    My other govt retirement my net pay dropped by almost $200 gross and my income taxes for that income dropped accordingly.

Ken, I don't agree with your politics but you are a reasonable person so I apologize if I was appearing unreasonable.

But take a look at what you have just said.

You are being paid by the government and complaining about the government cutting your money while on other threads you promote government spending cuts.

Actually it wasn't a complaint.   It was a warning to everyone.   I thought they said that we weren't getting a raise in our income tax for the middle class.   Now that is a complaint   However, telling everyone that it happened to beware isn't a complaint   it is a fact.

No, it's bullshit and you know it.

How do you complain about government spending and demand spending cuts but start bitching and moaning when those spending cuts affect you?

OK, it's obvious who anin't getting any here, they seem extra testy these days.

You wrote FITW which I assume to mean Federal Income Tax Witheld. Does that mean that the tax rate doubled ? It would be a reasonable assumption. Other possibilities are that there was an error in the previous witholding rate, or an error in the new rate.

I'm not dismissing the possibility that the tax rate itself increased, it well may have. Seems to me you should be able to get the rates from the IRS website. I know you can get the previous year, I've done it, but I haven't tried to get the current year. Actually this was a few years ago anyway, so who knows. But I see no reason they would not make it available.

Fuckit, I just went there. I don't see the actual tables for 2011 at the IRS site. Maybe it takes a little more searching. Anyway, according to the tables for 1040EZ if your AGI is $30,000 you pay $4,078 for 2010. At bargaineer.com, they say at $30,000 you pay 25%, which is $7,500. But the irs site seems to indicate something like about $4,700 (witholding). I don't think they'r inclined to withold less than the expected tax. Read it yourself because it's not that clear. In my old book the $ does not indicate percentage.

http://www.irs.gov/pub/newsroom/notice_1036.pdf

Typical tax code. My Father got into it for awhile, I never took to it. But I'll say this much, if politicians said there would be no tax increase and there is, it doesn't surprise me at all.

When they call you a liar here, remember that the most likely people to call thoe who are. Usually, honest people don't call others theives or liars, intelligent people don't call others stupid. Namecalling is a sign of a certain mentality. They know who they are.

T^T
