I don't know that I've ever created a thread in this section.....but here goes. I did a search and found nothing on Scott Brown here.

Last night he was on 60 Minutes and after seeing the piece, Generic Dude and I came to the same exact conclusion. Brown is positioning himself to bigger and better things than the Senate.

I've done a bit of reading on the guy and that only confirms my thoughts last night. Truth be told, I am not sure that is a bad thing. He seems to be much more electable than anything the Republicans have come up with in years.

Except for the fact that he likes to play politics.

I'm quite sure you know I'm no fan of the teabaggers, but he ran on their platform.

Yes, I'm happy he turned out to be more moderate, but I have to question his integrity.

It seems he used them to get elected and quickly abandoned them when his ambitions became higher.

That was kind of the feeling I got. Yes, his intentions seemed good and yes, he managed to say all the right things but I really couldn't help but feel that it was all very contrived. Even his abuse, it seemed to be a sense of "How can I use this....?"

Brown is almost certainly done in the next Senate election, even if he doesn't get primaried from the right which has been threatened. He's been trying to appease the majority of Mass. voters as well as the out of state right wingers that paid for his campaign (Club For Growth) and hasn't done a good job of keeping either group happy.

He has some serious fence mending to do if he wants to make a run for President.

Take it from a resident of the Commonwealth....

Sen. Brown doesn't really have a chance in the next election. It was a flook he was even elected. Largely the reason he was elected, had nothing really to do with him. Moderates voted for him, because they were angry at President Obama at the time for his stance to keep the troops in Afghanistan longer, instead of 'bringing them home now'.

Since that time, Mr. Brown has been consistantly 'middle of the road' on how he votes, but is very much a conservative in his theories and speechs. He wants/begs to court conservatives. But if he wants another term, he has to show liberals/moderates that he's 'middle of the road'. Its basically walking a tightrope, 1000 feet above the ground, during a category 5 hurricane. There has been alot of Moderates who have since regretted voting for Mr. Brown for a number of different reasons.

No, Mr. Brown is trying to set himself up as a VP contender for 2012 or 2016. During the next election, Democrats will field an experienced and well polished person. And make sure that person has a warchest to rival a Republican President! He will not be getting an actual full term in office; that's a given!

Every person who has sought an office since the beginning of time has sought bigger and better things once elected . Nothing new here from either party.

Especially now he wont back paul ryans medicare plan!!!!
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0511/55477.html
Why can’t I go along with the Ryan Medicare plan? First, I fear that as health inflation rises, the cost of private plans will outgrow the government premium support— and the elderly will be forced to pay ever higher deductibles and co-pays. Protecting those who have been counting on the current system their entire adult lives should be the key principle of reform.

But you know how it is when you join the Republican Party you have to toe the line.  Thinking for yourself is not allowed.

So why was this thread resurrected? Seems it died out back in Feb of this year and just within a few hours ago, its active again. Is there new news that Mr. Brown will indeed be the 'people's senator' sometime again in reality?

I've heard (not surprisingly) that the Democrats have found someone to run against Sen. Brown in the next election. I knew it back in Feb, that Democrats would field a well polished candidate to run against him. I dont have the name, but have heard he's a former officer in the US Military and veteran of Iraq. I'm sure he'll be well financed and promoted strongly here in Massachusetts. Mr. Brown has very slim odds of winning in a general election given his track record to date. Many of those moderates that voted for him, will be voting Democrat to correct their.....mistaken....vote.

Scott Brown is in an untenable position. He is not considered to be really republican by most within the party, and he has no room to swing right in his state, or he will lose his seat. His best option as far as I can see is to switch parties and become a right leaning democrat... he would not be alone, there are lots of them

"The Massachusetts Republican is looking unbeatable in his 2012 reelection bid, according to a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) poll obtained by Salon's Steve Kornacki:

But the DSCC received some bad news this week when a poll it commissioned found that Brown's popularity is soaring. The survey, which has been seen by at least one D.C. insider and was detailed for Salon, measured Brown's approval rating at 73 percent -- easily surpassing the scores for Barack Obama and the state's two top Democrats, Gov. Deval Patrick and Sen. John Kerry. It also found him running over the magic 50 percent mark against every potential Democratic challenger, and crushing the strongest perceived Democrats (Reps. Michael Capuano and Ed Markey and former Rep. Marty Meehan) by double-digit margins. The results only grew closer when respondents were primed with negative information about Brown. "

General Reply:

Senator Brown did not run in the Teabag platform. He got huge Teabag support because of the < at the time > upcoming Healthcare vote which he had pledged to vote against. He was my State Senator before running for the " Kennedy Seat " and I worked on his campaign and still work for his upcoming campaign and believe me, the Teabag folks don't like him, nor will he get much of their support. I don't think they really vetted his position on the issues other than HC, because he in no way resembles a Teabag boy.

Lucy : He is a decent chap. He is a great Senator. And I have adamantly disagreed with some of his voting record and emailed and called his office to voice my opposition. I don't think you can pin a label on him < Dem or Rep >, he has an independent mind and will vote the way he best thinks represents the people of Massachusetts. That's doing his job, IMO, even when I disagree with him.

I would love to see him run for POTUS, hopefully in 2016. That would be a refreshing change. And I mean that: from Obama as well as Bush.
