My foster cat is 8 years old and my ex Dom has 10 (yes TEN) rescue cats ranging from a few months to almost 20 years old. I think he's crazy, but saw the look of joy on his face when I was over there last night and he was surrounded by his critters.

Oh! The mostly feral cat has become friendly! It's been 2.5 years.

When I was with him we had 6 rescue cats and a rescue dog, whose death of cancer 18 months ago I still mourn.

We are petless for now. Lost my 11 or 12 year old Golden last fall and we've sold the horse.

All my family's cats and dogs are rescues.....

In Germany I always had either rescue cats or cats which needed new homes from adverts, free of charge. I dont know how it is in the US, but in Germany you can't really buy kitten and dogs in pet shops, unlike here in the UK. that means if someone has litter they are very unlikely to succeed to sell them and happy enough if they are lucky enough to find someone who takes them, as there are thousands thrown after you free of charge in the daily newspaper (on wednesdays and saturdays, though).

Over here I also wanted to get cats from a shelter but had a drama 3 times and then simply gave up at that time. As my ex and I had separated it was clear for me to get cats (haven't had any before in the UK due to his allergy) and was looking for a landlord who accepts pets...having found that I called around and I don't remember what the issue was with the first shelter but the second one didnt get back to me for 8 weeks or so, by what time I had thought they don't bother to get back to me, maybe thinking I would live too close to a main road....as I hadn't heard from them I called another shelter only to arrange a home visit....after all, thats practice here (not the case back home, as back home I just chose and pick the cat and take him/her home, at least the ones in my area)....however, that person was then incredible rude on the phone, snapping at me to first settle in before considering a cat, I can't move in and have cats straightaway!...wtf??? I hadn't said to want a cat straightaway, I had only called to arrange their holy visit....however, that was enough then and I gave up and got my 2 almost 4 year olds from a pet store. I always wanted a ginger cat, as I never had one and always they turned out not to be ginger in the past, and this time I found one at the other end from london...I paid for him and his sister, as in the store I realised I never had a tortoirshell cat either and wanted two anyway, and agreed to pick them up the following day...and on the same day, when I had just paid for them, in the evening I got the call from the 2nd animal shelter...that they have 2 cats for me and consider my area to be safe enough for them...well, that was too late then...

So normally I prefer rescue cats as well, though in regards to summer I needed a pedigree cat as I had my doubts that animal shelter would agree to another cat with just having a one bedroom flat (can be wrong about that, but after my experiences over here I am just not keen anymore on shelters here, at least not in my personal space) and having 3 cats already, but as pepper is a scardy cat and the boys are outside to 85% I needed a cat who is mainly indoor to give her company...thats how I ended up with a stubborn birman lady...

as some know I tried a bit the breeder world, but discovered its not my cup of tea....as I just don't like the idea to give my kittens away...so whilst my furry family will still grow with another 1-2 litters, afterwards that will be it. All will remain here (or go with friends I know, if so desired from any of them) but breeding cats is just not really something I feel comfortable with...yesterday I have seen an animal show in which one birman breeder lost both kitten...that reminded me a lot on my struggles I had with my 2 kitten when their mum was ill for 3 days in their first week of life...thank goodness mine pulled through and I hope her final 1-2 litters will go well as well...

Lump the cat is just over a year.  i "saved" her from a co-worker who could not provide the kind of environment she deserved, she was very ill when i got her but now she's strong and as bratty princess-y as one could imagine from any very young tribute Domme.
Gamera the red-ear slider turtle is at least (woah, really?) six years old (when did i get him?).  The little poo factory has always been happily caged and gazes with admiration upon his Mistress monkey Mistress as i type.  Okay, pressing his little beak to the glass of his tank like that gets him a baby carrot.  i'm such a push-over.

Excuse me, please, Lump demands a full body massage.

I love all these happy animal stories!.

I have 3 kittehs.

One is 6, a huge orange tabby with double paw names Brownie. Awesome mouser.

One is 7, a petite little calico kitty names Pickles, a delicate little love bug.

One is 2, a tuxedo marked half siamese sleek little thing that I adore, Miss Monkey.

One goofy lovable lab, a 2 year old female named Raven.

The newest additions are 2 amazing adorable freaking sweetest bunnies ever. Chubs and BunBun. They are 6 month old Himalayan sisters, white with black nose, ears and toes. I am smitten beyond belief. I jut finsihed giving them baby spinach, green grapes, pear slices and timothy hay cubes. I was driving to the office last October and saw a sign "Bunnies, 2 for $25.00, pets or meat." ACK! Slams on brakes, and get the bunnehs! I have never had bunnies in my life and let me tell you, they trigger a maternal nurturing intinct in me I didn't even think I had. Wierd....but amazing.

Now all you bunny haters hush it. I already have you on my list.

So anyway, 6 furbabies total, and 2 more rescue buns coming in about 10 days from the shelter.

I have two adorable and evil kitties, one three and one two. One of them is featured as my profile photo. One must obey the kitty before you can obey me.

Dogs:

Lucy, three years old, Labrador Retriever in a ridiculous shade of orange, which we didn't think was possible. VERY INBRED, unfortunately. A rescue from a puppy mill.

Molly, three years old, a pound puppy. They think she's part schnauzer, part poodle. She's about...ten pounds, or so.

Cat:

Alf. Thirteen years old, tabby cat. Chronically pissed off.

my dog is getting to be an old man (he'll be 10 this year /), which makes me sad because he was always the baby. =p his birthday is 2 days before mine, and i got him from a little town a few minutes from where i'm from. my family had moved back from the east coast, where my first doggie had been poisoned by some asshole on my street (death unto ye, seriously -- just you wait, you piece of shit -- in the night, the ninjas shall besiege thee!), and our other dog was lonely, too
my little dude was the last of his brothers and sisters to either be adopted or die -- the puppies kept getting out and getting into all kinds of calamity, to the point where the lady called me and said "i know you're not scheduled to pick him up for 2 weeks but PLEASE COME, i think he'll get killed!"  rural life is difficult for puppies; apparently other animals find them tasty, and they aren't always the best around cars.
anyway, the kids at the place weren't the most imaginative lot, and this momma doggie had had several litters over the years, and they gave each brown puppy the EXACT SAME NAME. i pondered changing my dog's name, but thought it would be funny to keep him as part of this glorious tradition. =p

this is an overly dramatic post dedicated toooooo --

Haus, he's a real beauty!  Looking a little self-satisfied there in the pic.....handsome boy and he knows it!

Lilly, your dog is soooo cute!  I'm guessing he loves the water?  What kind of dog is he?  And what is his name?

his name is Cocoa; he only sort of likes water -- i think he likes the idea of water more than actually engaging with it. =p haha
oh yeah -- and he's a mix-breed =p his mom was a black lab, and his dad was (what i believe to have been) a brittany spaniel (or brittany mix with strong brittany leanings =p)

OMG wow, aynne, just wow...glad they didnt end up as meat

I think once I relocated and have my own mortgage I will have more of the rescue critters as well...but for now I must remain careful in case I ever need for find a new landord again....gosh do I regret my move a fair bit (though not when I remember what bitch moved in at my previous place to replace my longterm neighbour, in regards to her I am glad I moved).

However, at present I can only do cats with them spending time outside as well, as I just don't have the space for variety, even when I would love to have a dog.

It's amazing to read how many have actually so many pets on here, I knew that some have quite a few but didn't expect that so many of us here have quite a few critters

lol, indeed, he looks very similar to my ginger boy, just that mine, curry, has short fur...i had never such a dominant cat at home as he is....

he even showed a previous date as well as my parents that he does not want them in "his" flat

Lilly, I can see the spaniel in him, I'm surprised he's not in the water!  Between the lab and spaniel, he should be loving it!

My last dog, Shiloh, absolutely LOVED water!  He was part chow and part lab, so his coat took literally 24 hours plus to completely dry out, but if there was a body of water near him, he'd be in it.  I actually bought the bigger plastic wading pool for him, filled it up with water and let him at it.  He'd run around playing fetch til he got hot, then he'd run flat out and belly flop into it.  He'd spread out and just lay there in the pool, working on his tan.  All he needed was some sunglasses and a beer, and he'd be set!

My sister's lab splashes around in her pond.....she is constantly yelling at him to get out of it.  And there's a huge pond in the woods on their property, so he's always in that too.....he thinks it's fun to chase the ducks.  I doubt he'd do more than bring it to my sis if he ever caught one...but he's basically harmless.

Thank you ! He's a rock star for sure.... and clearly the only Alpha in the house.  He can be a bit feisty, but many orange tabby's are.  My other boy is a total goofball.

I'm down to one cat, she's almost 6 now. I would love another one, but she doesn't like other cats. Funny thing is, she came into a home full of cats. God rest their little souls. Never warmed up to them tho and she is a much happier cat all alone. So I guess I will let her be the " queen " for now.

I also have three parakeets. 3 yrs 1 1/2 yrs and 1 yr old.

The cat adores the birds. Go figure.

it takes him a while to warm up to water, and if you go out with him, he's a lot more confident. he WANTS to get in the water, but he's a shy kid. =p
he was playing fairly regularly with another big lab who LOVED water (that's where that photo came from) and he would run full speed with the other dog all the way to the end of the pier and then throw on the brakes at the last minute. =p once i finally got him in it, he was fine and swam around and had a blast. it's just the initial "ack!!!"
he's a nervous dude at times. =p
