Marini -> Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/16/2011 7:02:05 PM)

Okay, this post is mainly a rant.

I am more than ticked off about the extreme budget cuts coming.

I know they are "needed", because if not, we may be doomed.

What pisses me off, is this sort of reminds me of all the taxes I pay.

We pay a lot in taxes, for many things we do not want to have to support.

So now, I should be glad that programs like medicaid, medicare and even social security may be cut, while zillions of dollars will continue to be spent on things I have real issues with.

I guess this is the new American way.
Drive the standard of living down for many people and continue to spend zillions of bucks on many things that many people don't believe in nor want to support.

Personally, with the budget cuts I feel that Americans are being told to almost take vows of severe sacrifice so that we can continue to help everyone in the world that is not an American citizen.

I swear, being alive in this day in age never ceases to get any stranger.

Am I the only one that feels this way about taxes, budget cuts, and all the money that is not being spent to help......gasp....American citizens?

Keep paying our asses in taxes, we can't pass good national health care plan, now extreme budget cuts???

So we can CONTINUE to spend money on who, what, where and why, but not fucking US?????

Fucking joy!!

I will say if this trend continues, all the rioting we see will not only be overseas one day.
People are eventually going to be fed up here, and I don't mean just the tea party nuts.

Maybe we need to vote on these things.

Yeah tazzy!
The people need to be able to vote on how at least SOME of our hard earned tax money is spent.
Cause it sure as hell, ain't spent the way most people want it to be spent.
Why the hell can't we build affordable housing, for the working poor that live in shelters?
Why the hell can't we provide MORE help to Americans that are having a hard time of it?

Do you realize that many of the people living in shelters in Virginia, have jobs?
Shit like this, pisses me off.
I like Barack Obama, but the older I get, the more I continue to HATE, "THE MAN.

They call it socialism to cover up the fact that they refuse to lose any of the money the special interest groups give them (politicians) to call it socialism.

One of the main reasons, I am a little happy about how bad things will eventually get, is because of that and all the wonderful outsourcing, SOCIALISM in some form will be the only viable thing for America.

I hope I am alive to see it, Capitalism has fucking failed.

Arpig, we are being screwed so hard, and we don't even get a kiss or good national health care coverage.
I have been paying into social security since I was 16, and I am damn skippy going to get my social security one day, if I am alive.
If not, I am close enough to Washington, to fucking organize, and help set it off.
You will see my ass on CNN on the regular, if I don't get my fucking money.

I am disabled. I depend on social security to get by.

There are a lot of people over retirement age that depend on social security.

Funny thing is that the GOP congressmen and women that have been around for a while were pushing for an alternative engine for the F-35 fighter jet. An engine that the Department of Defense did not want or need. It took President Obama going to the freshmen congressman to get the damn thing killed.

The GOP wants to cut spending in education, environmental protection and farm programs.

Our education standing is NINTH for people with a high school education, and seventh in college degrees, both areas we were ranked first in 20 years ago.

Other countries subsidize agriculture, so they can sell their goods cheaper than we can.

And who cares about the environment? Its not like it is important for anything.

In defense spending, the US spends $663,255,000,000 a year as of 2009, leading the world. China, the country at number 2 spends only $98,800,000,000.

Now Russia is number five at $61,000,000,000.

Both Russia and China have larger standing and reserve military forces than the US.

So, why the fuck are we spending so much on the military? We could cut spending by half and still be outspending everyone else by at least 3 times over.

Marini -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/16/2011 7:32:34 PM)

Great post jeff, you are a great citizen.

In fact, if they attempt to make any major cuts or even LOOK at social security, I may have to get ready to engage in some major protesting.

I am a baby boomer, there are a lot of us, and we can set this shit off.

I think President Obama has a lot of sense, and he knows not to even mention social security, or medicare.
He knows what side his bread is buttered.

Let Congress take the fucking heat, be quiet Barry!

Aww thanks Arpig.
I think even the deepest of sleepers, might be waking up soon!
If they DARE to think, they can throw money all over the damn world and think they can cut medicare or social security any time soon.
They will see that shit ain't gonna fly.

Arpig -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/16/2011 8:06:42 PM)

Hey, charity starts at home...but under the present US  climate (and increasingly up here as well)  that idea seems to be lost. Personally I think it would do the whole world good if every country took half its foreign/military budget and spent it on their internal issues the world would be well 200-300% better off.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/spending.htm

If we look at % of GDP, then we rank Number 25.   GDP is a better figure to look at than raw numbers because some small countries GDP doesn't equal in raw convertable currency the expenditure of some other countries (including china and russia).

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/china/budget.htm

China's defense spending is by no means transparent. China’s published defense budget does not include large categories of expenditure, including expenses for strategic forces, foreign acquisitions, military-related research and development, and China’s paramilitary forces.    The US budget does contain these.

http://blog.heritage.org/2010/04/05/how-does-u-s-defense-spending-compare-with-other-countries/

Now the Heritage Foundation shows us tied at 8th based upon GDP with an expenditure of approximately 4% of our GDP.   That by the way is down from the 60's when we spent approximately 9% of our GDP on defense and even during the Regan buildup was 6% of the GDP.  So since the 60's we have cut our GDP expenditures for the military by more than half (but not quite 2/3d's)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_size_of_armed_forces

Now the number of active military personnel per 1000 citizens in the US is 5.1.   Whereas Russia is 7.3/1000 and China is 1.7/1000.   Huge differences.    And yet the US still doesn't rank number one.

Personally I expect some dropping  of expenditures after we quit fighting.   That is normal.   it is also normal for a drop in the number of personnel.

But if we look at entitlement program projections I believe we will find that they are taking over the budget.  ( http://www.heritage.org/BudgetChartbook/entitlements-historical-tax-levels ) and during this century will outpace revenues at projected growth rates.

So yes, I guess we could blame everything on the military.   Been that way for as long as I can remember.   Why not stop now?

DarkSteven -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/17/2011 5:27:36 AM)

What's the surprise? We've been spending more money than we have for years. The time to fight excess spending is when the purchase is made, not when the bill arrives.

KenDckey -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/17/2011 5:28:35 AM)

That is so true Steven.   so true

Take a look at your top 10 again. Just a glance I saw Qatar, Saudi, Isreal......Who do you think pays for that?

DomYngBlk -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/17/2011 7:25:43 AM)

Iraq, Oman, Yemen, Jordan.........Those are US dollars..

pahunkboy -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/17/2011 7:29:28 AM)

OP,  so what is YOUR plan?

Gimme some ideas.

gobsmack -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/17/2011 3:04:24 PM)

I was thinking about this earlier today after getting my taxes done. I'm tempted to look into the foreign income exclusion and rather than paying taxes to the government, use the money instead to pay rent and travel the world for a year. My own way of voting with my dollars.

That sounds like a wonderful plan.
As long as you don't have to maintain a residence, cause if you do, you will certainly pay your property taxes from wherever in the world you are.

If not you won't have a home when you get back.

TheHeretic -> RE: Slightly pissed off about budget cuts/taxes, you name it (2/17/2011 7:46:53 PM)

The hard way out of the debt mess we're in is rampant growth of the private, productive, tax paying, segment of the economy. The easy way is massive inflation. The boomers among us may want to adjust their IRA's accordingly.
