very interesting that there's no muhammed ali, or steve wozniak. it's his fault we have iEverything.
@HippieKinkster -- the Alte Pinakothek certainly looks like a place worth visiting.

FR,

The comments on the site page point out that the Chinese artists who painted
this are showing some interesting cultural and age bias:  no Jesus Christ,
no Martin Luther, no Martin Luther King, no Dali Lama,  we get a Bush
and Clinton but no George Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, etc.

Also very weak on recognizing women.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: More COOLNESS from Mom (2/15/2011 11:11:55 PM)

those are some interesting points Outlier, though could we expect any less bias from an American or European painter? there would still be bias, just in a different direction.

True, no one is ever without bias, no matter how much they try.  Brand Blanchard
wrote some interesting stuff about that.

Since we are talking about this painting at this time what do you think of the fact that
they put in Confucius but left out Lao Tzu?   Unless I just could not find him.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: More COOLNESS from Mom (2/16/2011 8:19:40 AM)

Lao Tzu is there; between Che Guevara and Yassar Arafat.

Jan Vermeer is one of my favorites..  this one is just breathtaking, IMO.  he captures the light on the water so beautifully...and the shadowing on the clouds...

pearl earring is another, of course.. the light, skin tones, etc..

Make the most of this, it won't happen often. But you have taste kid, nice one.

GreedyTop -> RE: More COOLNESS from Mom (2/17/2011 5:54:28 AM)
