maybemaybenot -> Need CMail help (2/10/2011 11:12:41 AM)

I'm having trouble with Cmails I send out.

WHen I write a Cmail strange things are appearing in my Cmail, making it difficult for the recipient to read/understand what i have said. They show up randomly at the begonning of a sentence or in the middle of words.
These characters are interdispersed throughtout my Cmail:
" ' "

I will copy and paste a few lines from CMails so you can get a better idea of what I mean. It's hard to describe.
The bolded aparts are what I am referring to and showing up.

it wasn$apos;t quite as simple

More's;s the pity.

It looks like it's when I use an apostrophe, but I don't know why. Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it ?

Are you composing in another program and then pasting into Cmail?

RCdc -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 11:16:28 AM)

It's coding.

It is when an apostrophe doesn't copy from one source of code to another source.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 11:24:15 AM)

I'm composing it directly in Cmail.

RCdc.... how do I stop the coding ? The Cmails I recieve don't have this coding in them.

I think Twoshoes once commented that the apostrophe will work in the Times Roman font.
I also have that issue, and instead of having to select the font each time, I just send
my mail out with poor punctuation. [8D]

This happens to me sometimes when I post from my phone.

RCdc -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 11:41:50 AM)

Which font do you use? And you don't copy into the box, but type straight into the box?

playfulotter -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 12:44:02 PM)

I think everyone has this problem. You can always go back in your email right after you send it and correct the error and modify it before it is read as that works for me for some reason.

VaguelyCurious -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 1:09:50 PM)

I reckon it might be an incompatible browser - which one are you using?

ModTwentyOne -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 1:46:52 PM)

Windows XP users report this as an issue. You can try typing without apostrophes if you have Windows XP.

GreedyTop -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 1:50:53 PM)

I have XP and as far as I know this has never been an issue..

of course, I do use the apostrophes sparingly..    but I DO use them on occasion..

RCdc -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 2:55:37 PM)

I had XP and never had issues with apostrophes.
I have 7 now, and still no probs.

playfulotter -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 3:13:14 PM)

aha! I do have Windows XP so that might be why it does that to me sometimes. I do kind of remember though that it started after they changed the email system here last year too.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Need CMail help (2/10/2011 6:41:40 PM)

Thanx Mod 21 and everyone else. [:D] I do have XP, so I guess that's the problem.
Easy enough fix, I'lll just drop the apostrophe's.

It's definitely not purely an OS issue. I just tested with Chrome 9, Safari 5, IE 8, and Firefox 3 in a copy of Windows XP and was not able to replicate the behavior. Are those affected using an old version of IE, like IE 6, by any chance?

If so, I'd personally try upgrading IE or running another browser. It looks like the site might be applying an odd entity encoding to apostrophes in text input. Since & apos; isn't a valid HTML entity, it can cause problems with some browsers - others treat it as a valid XML entity. But all the major modern browsers seem to be avoiding the problem, even in XP – so there shouldn't be a need to deprive yourself of desired punctuation.

VideoAdminAlpha -> RE: Need CMail help (2/11/2011 5:58:07 AM)

Are you using Firefox? The site works best with IE. I noticed that the tests above did not test Firefox. I'm betting that's your problem.

Nope, I have IE 8 and have the same issue with apostrophes on XP.
