Ic, no links right now, and I would like to digress just a bit.

When is a technology considered efficient ? Right now it is by short term standards, but even by long term standards, solar has a long way to go. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but let me propose an acid test.

Get up a solar cell and a light source, that will power itself. That is that the light from the light source produces enough power from the cell to light the light. This seems like a perpetual motion machine, in which the motion produced is only in electrons, but it doesn't have to be.

They did it with a motor/generator combination. I posted it here because I didn't believe it. Nobody else did either but I did eventually find out how it works. It uses permanent magnets along with eletromagnetism to achieve an apparent efficiency greater than 100%. It does not qualify as a perpetual motion machine by any means, and it is not magic. From where did the magnetism come, in the permanent magnets ? And you know the gaussian field is reduced every time the magnetic force produces any work.

But they did it by technological advancement. This is what needs to be done here. Even if they "cheat" to get the "apparent" result, they need to go in that direction. What's more, the first viable solution will. Know why ? Bacause inherently the sytem will stop working and require replacement. Using technolloogy in that way will assure that, and therefore future profits.

They don't dig oil and gas well because they like you, they do it for money. Money funds the research. And if you think about it, people who figure this shit out oughtta get paid, ya think ?

Know what I think ? Too many people think inside the box. An advanced Stirling cycle engine can convert heat (from the sun possibly) directly into rotary motion. Does it seem logical to instead convert the sun's energy to electricity and use same to run a motor ? The inefficiency comes in the conversion process, so why have more of that than you need ?

(I have a GIF animation of the stirling cycle, but who knows if I'll ever find it)

T^T

With our present form of society, solar and any other alternative energy source will only become our future, if there is profit to be made in it, for without the potential, in fact sure fire potential to make large sums of money, no investor  will be interested, sad, but true. Investors exist to make money, not supply a service to others.

The only way I can envisage alternative energy sources being a viable way of creating enery, is if it is done on a small scale, say individually, or at most community level, where the interest is in creating energy to aid living, not make profit, just think of energy creation like the old heating and lighting oil of the past, it cost, but it's use was cooking and lighting. But, thet is the cruxt of the problem, we have been brought up to be merchants, where we must make profit, not just use and exist.

Alternative energy means a move away from the centralisation of society, the great experiment has failed and with that, we see the breaking up of unions.
