If anyone is still interested...

The talk today is why did he resign so fast? He quit three hours after he was exposed. No attempt at spin, no wife-standing-by-her-man-while he apologizes moment. Nothing. specualtion is that he is either:

A) A smart and classy guy bowing to the inevitable in order to spare his family the humiliation... which would seem to contradict the level of intelligence and character that got him into this mess, or...

B) There's something else in his past that he doesn't want the media to dig up so he's getting out while the getting is good.

The other big topic is who will run to replace him. My own state Senator Geroge D. Maziarz is apparently cotemplating a run. I've met the man on a few occasions and all I have to say is... OH DEAR GOD NO! I'm not sure if anyone else will be any better, though.

I have read rumors that this is Boehner's doing, that he is much less forgiving of turpitude and scandals than his predecessors. If so, I salute him.

He made that claim before the story broke. Whether that was some sort of preemptive strike or not, I don't know. The point is the speed in which he quit after the story broke.

Maureen O'Connor — Three hours after his shirtless Craigslist antics appeared on this site, Rep. Chris Lee (R-NY) announced his resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives.

This from the Gawker.com site.

You make him sound almost heroic for not contesting this and immediately stepping down. Thats not a class act... thats an idiot who thought he could get away with it realizing he got caught, tried to spin, got caught again, and just gave up.

The Gawker had contacted him about this story before it was made public.

So did the married Republican prowl Craiglist looking for hook ups? After first telling us that he couldn't comment until we forwarded every single email in question, a request we refused—shouldn't Lee know if he's corresponded with women on Craigslist?—Lee's spokesman eventually announced that the Congressman believed he'd been hacked, and provided an email he claims Lee sent to his staff about the security breach on January 21. (The story was posted Feb 9... the incident with the woman occured Jan 14th - 15th)

Huh? I don’t know how you came up with that silly notion but since you did, allow me to disabuse you of your misapprehension: I find the speed in which he quit suspicious.

As for all the other nonsense, since it bothers you so much: I hereby amend my remarks from “no spin” to “very little spin.”
