As I expected, you ignored deductions, exemptions and credits.

Um. My original point was:

quote:

3. If US minimum wage earners paid absolutely no income tax at all, they would need to make back $12,800 in credits and deductions to make as much as Australians do after tax.

You asked me how I got 12,800. I explained.

Stats comparing the US to other countries don't mean much to me unless they factor in the drug problem here. If you are not a drug user, the statistics for longevity, poverty, etc etc change dramatically. I have no idea of the incidence of, say, crack cocaine in Oz.

Gang problems as well.

Well I brought up those long life/literacy/poverty statistics to prove that Australia has a higher quality of life, but if you guys want to go the route of "the US has massive gang and drug problems" I guess that would show quality of life too.

It has to be said, US gangland culture is much more advanced than that of Australia, Elisabella. I don't think Aussie gangsters have even developed their own language yet, have they?

I want to leave the U.S. Australia, New Zealand, and Belize are my short list.
My wife refusues to go, and I'm not leaving until my youngest daughter is at least out of high school....
I have not thought of minimum wages because I don't figure to make minimum wage, but it's an interesting discussion anyway.

Which fields?  How long would it take to get a work permit?

No, that was no good at all. I understood most of what he was saying. I'm always impressed by my total incomprehension when trying to follow what US gangstas are saying to each other in the movies.
