Cincinnati has been lucky on this latest storm. We had some ice but not too bad. Less than 1/4". We are dealing with high winds today. We do have a lot power outages due to the wind and the ice. But the winter overall will go down and be in the top 5 for snow fall for the winter if not making it to #1.

My dialysis center is closed which is a good thing since my street is only identifiable as the space between the hills of snow that probably conceal cars. When I went out to take a look around there was a drift roughly 4 feet tall piled up against one of the doors to the apartment building. I'm glad I can simply stay inside today.

lotsa snow, and its still falling. My son shoveled the sidewalks and stairs and with snow drifts, there was several feet of snow. Neighbors are having to dig their cars out, but still aren't able to get onto the roads because the snow is too deep. I've no inention of going anywhere, so no worries. It would really suck to have a medical emergency right about now though.

There were radio reports this morning that the CFD was using snowmobiles to respond to medical emergencies.

Wow.  Colorado seems moderate. We got a decent snow Monday but none since.  It is around zero from Monday through tomorrow and then the cold lets up.  Just cold, no white stuff.

Everything looks to be encased in glass (ice)....including my car.

It's suppose to warm up later this afternoon enough to melt some of the ice. I'm working from home today.

That sounds a lot like papa Murphy's law... So finally finished digging out after it seems to have stopped here in Chicago, the drifts at the bottom of my stairs were close to 5 feet. I am now going to spend the rest of the day drinking coffee and complaining about my back since school is canceled for the day. Perhaps we should have a sledding party in the Chi once the roads are a little more drivable.

Well, the storm in my area has turned out to be a bust. Sure, its cold and we got some snow and freezing rain but around here we just call that "winter." So I am at work today after all. I guess I'll save the Pastrami and the Floyd for the weekend. Then again, maybe not. It seems not too many ventured out today anyway (the schools are closed) and business is non-existant, so I may be calling it an early day.

Here in the Milwaukee area we ended up with about 18 inches. 40 mph winds were responsible for huge snow drifts. South of here heading for Chicago it was closer to 2 feet of new white stuff..

Well the plan to sit in my arm chair and chat on the boards sipping coffee were dashed. helped the neighbor dig out so his daughter could finish moving house..had to clear access to her basement door, dug down through nine feet of drift. I admit I had ulterior motives, for one the guy is rich as hell and Im poor, and his daughter well, shes gorgeous.

Hey chubbyguy, Racine and Kenosha got 23 inches. We haven't heard much about Chicago..

City is reporting the total as 20.4 inches. The problem here is the winds blowing that 20 inches into 4 or 5 foot piles in some areas. I really wish I knew how to show a picture but alas I'm just a noob.

Good luck to all of you buried in snow ... I remember that from My childhood days in England!

Please spare a thought for far north Queensland in Australia that was hit overnight with a category 5 cyclone Yasi ... even bigger in dimensions than Katrina was when she hit New Orleans. Fortunately as much of this area was devastated by a category 3-4 one called Larry back in 2006, many of the rebuilt buildings are more cyclone-proof and so have got away with it relatively well in the larger cities up there, Cairns and Townsville. But a small town called Tully (one of the 2 wettest places in Australia ordinarily!), has severely copped it, with many houses flattened, and other nearby areas such as Mission Beach too. Banana plantations have been literally flattened, sugar cane too. Add that to the devastating floods that happened recently in the rest of Queensland (I know they made worldwide news) ... and floods elsewhere in New South Wales and Victoria ... the extreme heatwave we're having in NSW (temps of 44C+!) and now fires ... it's a tough summer downunder! That said, I am incredibly proud of how well we've responded as Aussies ... pitching in and helping each other ... very little looting or other antisocial behaviour ... the Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has been just amazing and is finally getting praise from the media instead of knocks ... our emergency service personnel are awesome. Proud to be an adopted Aussie!

Also spare a thought for people hundreds of km inland who will now cop a reduced Yasi ... down to category 2 but still enough to blow 100kmh+ winds and dump a lot of rain ... they are so far inland they never dreamt they'd see a cyclone! Hope their buildings will hold out and that the resulting floods won't be too bad.

Definitely have some room in my thoughts for the wonderful people in Australia. I have alot of good friends there. I wish I was able to do more than just think positive/pray for your people.
