I am looking for a particular painting to illustrate an article I am writing. I know I have seen the picture twice in art history books but I can't find it now that i need it. The image: an outdoors scene. Center foreground is a Black Female Slave standing in profile while the trader is exhorting her charms. She is basically a classic proud sex goddess. To the left is the Pharaoh with his harem exclaiming in awe at the slaves beauty and poise. To the right is a white redhead female slave crying and whimpering up against the wall, horrified at her predicament. This is an oil painting, possibly an old master but at least a recognized artist. I think it may be of the Victorian era but it could also be from the renaissance era. If any of you can identify this image or find a link to it I would be very grateful.

Frankly Sir, that sounds more like a Boris Vallejo. Such are often his most excellent and evocative themes..

I agree that the subject matches Vallejos but this image is far older.

Yeah, it's older stuff, I know what you're talking about - there's a guy doing CGI knock offs in that style, pretty good, I saw some of his stuff the other day in a comix category on some TGP, cant' remember which one - next time I run into it, I'll get you a link - haven't seen the original stuff for a while. Try googling Fredrick Goodall, Nineteenth century.

Soooo close! Its not the one I was looking for but the concept is very close. The one I am looking for is much brighter both in color and in mood. Essentially, the only character displaying anything other than happiness and pride is the white slave. The scene is at the pharaohs palace outside. Stylistically, the closest I have seen is Gerome and his students. But there are hundreds of his students so that doesn't help much at all. I do know I have seen it in at least two art history books so it shouldn't be too obscure but its been elusive so far. But I give you the deepest respect for your ability to find something so close. Thank You

I have seen some paintings by Gustave Boulanger that are similar in tone. Try Googling him.

Boulanger is another of Gerome's students and you are correct, his style is exactly like the picture I am searching. Playfulotter also nailed a lot of similar images. I thank you both for the help. So far, this threads comments have lead me to about three dozen artists who could be the one but so far no luck. But I did get a couple of scene ideas so i can't say the search has been entirely fruitless. One thing that has amazed me is the sheer number of paintings in this genre. I had figured a couple dozen images on this theme but there seems to be many thousand that have survived. I wonder why there doesn't seem to be a book of specifically D/s themed erotic paintings from this genre.
