When I joined this site and checked off the box that said Certified Personal Trainer ,  I didn't think I would be getting the emails that I have been getting.  I have been getting email after email with the contents being more exercise related then bdsm. I don't mind , in fact I am used to it. When you  walk around in a t shirt that says trainer you will get stopped by EVERYONE and their mother trying to pick your brain. I am used to it and I'm happy to answer questions that will help. So what I am doing here is answering the most common questions I have been getting. I hope you learn something!

Spot reduction of fat: You can't spot reduce your fat. This means that doing sit ups or anything of that nature will NOT get rid of that flab. The only way to do this is cardio ( I suggest mixing it up between both low intensity and high intensity to hit different energy systems) and a healthy diet. Muscle and fat are two different things.

Low Carb Diets;  Add some brown rice with that steak and toss that book written by Dr Atkins. Carbs are needed for energy and guess what you need carbs to burn fat. Shocking!!.

Working those Bi's : Biceps are one of the smallest muscles in your body. You don't need to focus a whole day of workout on them. Everytime you work your lats you are working them.  Bicep curls are awesome but dont spend all day on them. Dont forget your triceps either ( Now dip baby dip) Tricep dips that is lol

Women and bulking up.  Ladies, unless we starting doing steroid cycles and sacrificing our periods  we will never EVER! bulk up like Arnold. Do not  worry about . Do some total body resistance training at-least 3 times a week and your body will thank you

Cardio: Yes you need it.. Just do it! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are just some of the questions...... Here are some answers to the more BDSM related ones Ive been asked

No, swallowing your Masters gift will not help you lose weight.   I'm not sure how that rumor ever got started but it wont. In fact the body fluid contains 5-7 calories. So dont worry about it and just do as your Master says.

I dont know how many calories will be burned while your master/miss is whipping you.  Unless I have other information from you  there is no way I can figure that out. In all reality if your master/miss is playing with you then you should not thinking about your energy expenditure.

Anal sex and a round butt.  Okay ladies and gents engaging in anal sex will not round out flatter butts. Again I dont know where that info came from but the shape of your behind is determined by genetics and use of your glute muscles. Underactive glute muscles will  lose form. Want to try for a rounder butt.. Squats, lunges, leg presses and other exercises that will engage your glutes. Remember genetics determine the shape of your muscles. Squatting will only take you so far.

Hope yall learned something

I'm not a trainer, but I have to suggest bellydance.  I've been doing it for about ten years, and I have rock hard abs.  Belly rolls, flutters, and undulations will whip your torso into shape pretty quick, and won't hurt your back.  I have a painful back too, due to scoliosis, so I know where you're coming from.

I have ruptured disks, and have tried everything, but lately I've been having good luck with ab crunches/leg raises while hanging from a chinning bar, one of those new ones that hangs from the door molding - it's totally unloaded, and you can vary your routine quite a bit: one leg, both legs, hold it, side to side, etc.

They make slings for your arms to help you keep hanging, but with a length of nylon strapping across the back and under the arms and some imagination, I'm pretty sure you could rig a suspension harness that leaves your lower body to swing free, without having to develop an iron grip - it can be fun too, but make sure to secure the bar and don't get too wild - if you get too violent in your motions, the bar thing can slip off the molding, but one long screw into a stud can fix that.

I'm a yoga teacher and have had back issues on and off for 20 years. I recommend *gentle* yoga to stretch and strengthen the muscles around the spine. Let me know if you have a specific condition and I can give specific advice.

Strengthening the stomach muscles and stretching the hamstrings will also help the back.

NOTE: yoga can also make matters worse. Most teachers don't do enough warm ups for those of us with cranky backs. If you're new to yoga, stick to gentle or restorative classes, which shouldn't have postures like wheel or shoulderstand or forward bends. Listen to your body and don't be competitive with the teacher or other students.

I highly recommend Rodney Yee's AM Yoga, which is only 15 minutes so no excuses! This is a great warmup for any other type of exercise.

It comes with a longer PM Yoga that's more advanced.

VHS also available for less.

I sure hope you are under the supervision of a qualified medical professional.

Tread mills and rowing machines are Sooooo boring and jogging jerks your spine unless you buy specialized made to measure running shoes.
Never been on a diet and never will. I have watched too many people go on faddy diets only to put the weight back on when they come off it. Put a cream cake in front of someone on a diet and theres a high chance they won't be able to resist it. They have deprived their eating habits to the extreme but their gremlin will always walk closely in their shadow. Adjusting ones eating habits is a much better long term plan and coupled with an exercise that one finds enjoyable and not too time consuming.

I used to ride horses between 4 and 6 hours a day. I ate like a horse and I was so skinny but incredibly strong. After giving up the horse work I joined gyms, exercised at home and went to spinning clubs but I had to force myself to do all of those exercises and I just didn't have the long term willpower.

Swimming was something I loved and so was cycling. Its not something I would ever get bored of and its something I hope I can do well into old age.

I think you can get into the tedium of them, inane though that sounds.  Me, I can end up in a sort of trance doing that cardio stuff.  That especially works, I find, if I take a machine directly behind a tread mill occupied by a woman with an agreeable arse.

seconding belly dance for those with unhappy backs.
it's great and really will work your abs; mine are pretty solid under my fluff and i've only been doing it 3 years. depends on how much you do it and how much you practice obviously (i practice A LOT) but yeah -- it's great.

What if it's an arse that needs some coaxing in order to come to some agreement?
Would that be a willing to compromise arse?

Low Carb Diets;  Add some brown rice with that steak and toss that book written by Dr Atkins. Carbs are needed for energy and guess what you need carbs to burn fat. Shocking!!.

I have clients who do very well indeed on various controlled carbohydrate regimens, ranging from targeted/cyclic ketogenic to various levels of carb restriction.  Generally there is a strong emphasis on vegetables and high fiber grain products as well as primarily lean proteins and healthy fats with a good omega ratio such as nuts, olive oil and fish.  Ketogenic diets are not a suitable tool for every individual; that depends on their medical and dietary history, their current lifestyle and behavioral/psychological environment, and many other factors.  I am deeply suspicious of any "cookie cutter" advice that suggests that one method works for everyone.  It demonstrably doesn't, which is why most people fail on diet plans, even plans that may have worked well for others.

Working out on a ketogenic diet really isn't fun for the initial few weeks, but once ketosis is established, your cells do develop the mitochondrial reserves that allow them to fraction ATP for fuel in the absence of glycogen.  Since most gym rats still aren't going to be fully satisfied with their performance without a direct glycogen source, a targeted ketogenic diet (eg, carefully calculated carb-ups before and after resistance training to optimally replenish muscle glycogen but not refill liver glycogen) is a viable tool.  Timing and macronutrient ratios are crucial.

As for needing carbs to burn fat, that's a gross oversimplification to the point of not being true.  Fasting cardio (generally morning cardio before breakfast) is considered optimal because when glycogen reserves are depleted, the body begins breaking down fat as fuel.  A more general restriction on carbohydrates can definitely speed the use of the body's fat reserves for fuel.

Realistically people on a modern diet are not eating so much of the "good carbs"; the junk food out there that will have the most devastating direct effect on your fat storage metabolism via your insulin/glucagon cycle is high glycemic index carbohydrates.  So restricting carbohydrates makes a great deal of sense, particularly when paired with an emphasis on high fiber, low glycemic index, nutritionally dense foods which happen to be "low carb".  A lifetime of eating high-GI can result in significant disruption to insulin and leptin sensitivity, and carbohydrate restriction is crucial to addressing this issue if your client has it.  No amount of low fat dieting is likely to compensate for insulin and leptin resistance if that is the underlying issue, and if you don't pay attention to glycemic index levels it can make the client's problem considerably worse.

Extremes are not healthy or sustainable, whether we're talking about a 400 calorie a day cabbage soup diet or doing Atkins wrong by eating a pound of butter wrapped in bacon at every meal. But the fact is that the average American diet is so high in glycemic index and nutritionally empty carbohydrates that restricting these foods and developing an awareness of why they are bad for you may be the most important step a dieter can take.

Ketogenic or controlled carbohydrate diets are not the magic answer for everyone, nor will they work ideally for everyone, though they are an effective response to insulin resistance and an excellent biochemical "hack" of your body's basic fueling system.   I would recommend the work of Lyle McDonald and Dan Duchaine to folks seriously interested in further research; they are academics who provide excellent documentation and references to peer reviewed publications, unlike Atkins and the South Beach author, whose work is considerably oversimplified and dumbed down for laypeople.

OP, You obviously as a PT speak a lot of BS without knowing what you are talking about.  Did you ever READ the book?  Do you know the plan at all?  Something tells me based upon said comment above because Atkins is NOT a NO carb diet.  I really hate when Trainers speak out of ignorance and people who speak without ever knowing what the plan is about.  But i am sure it makes you feel like a PT.

Your arrogance with this LIST of yours is beyond believable.  Especially when you are posting BS about something you obviously have no clue how it works.
