Mike453 -> Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 8:38:48 AM)

While we could do it here as an off-topic or general post, how about a forum about the forum and the main system.

I'm sure others at time are frustrated by using the system. Once you figure something out, it actually seems to work well. But getting there the first time. (Isn't that pretty much life in general?)

Anyway, I took some pictures this morning (snowed in, nothing sexy, sorry. Well, unless you consider a snow covered Jeep sexy? You do??? I know, it's a Jeep thing!) and uploaded them, but I can't seem to find out how to make them appear.

And OH NO!! It says I'm Vanilla!!!!

LaTigresse -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 8:45:22 AM)

Each section has a FAQ at the top. That, combined with the helpful suggestions of other posters, and some elementary computer skills, seems to have worked splendidly for years. I foresee it working similarly in the future.

DarkSteven -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 8:46:46 AM)

The last forum specifically exists for trial posts like the one you want to make.

kalikshama -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 8:49:40 AM)

Hi Mike,

Not to worry, the vanilla will go away after you've made 25 or so posts.

No one has confirmed this officially, but it wasn't until I hit 100 posts that I was able to post pictures.

Welcome!

KK

Mike453 -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 8:57:03 AM)

Thanks!

I didn't think about trying to post the photos here. I was trying to put them in my main account. Is there a size limit or anthing? Maybe I didn't shrink them down enough. Hmm, come to think of it, I may not have shrunk them at all. I took them with a D5000, so they are probably fairly big.

I'm assuming they should they be in jpg or exif format.

GreedyTop -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 8:57:47 AM)

if you read the photo requirements, it will tell you

Mike453 -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 9:02:53 AM)

And the photo requirements are where???

I did cut the size down, and they did post.

GreedyTop -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 9:10:04 AM)

GreedyTop -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 9:20:57 AM)

ok, my bad.. I thought it was explained BEFORE you posted a pic to the profile..   hangon, I'll dig up the rules in a moment or three

poise -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 9:24:35 AM)

Hello Mike, and welcome to the forums!
While there isnt a main "How To" thread for some of the features
available here, most of the posters here are more than happy to assist.
Feel free to drop me a line should you have any other How To questions.

Lovely photos by the way!

GreedyTop -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 9:26:37 AM)

ok, far call.. I cant find the text I had seen before.. it may have been attached to SENDING pics by mail.

Anyway.. contact support.. I know there is a link at the bottom of each page...

Mike453 -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 9:36:08 AM)

Read what? The page has a color selection for the profile, then you can point to your hard drive to upload. The only info is the warnings about ownership.

Hmm, is there a misconception here? I was trying to post photos to my main profile, and nothing happened. They just went off to some unknown location in cycberspace, never to be seen again. I DID finally get them to post, but only after cutting them to 640x480

/former Massachusetts resident now in south Florida snickers at photos/

59 degrees here and the locals are wearing their fur-lined boots.

~General Comment~

Actually, CalifChick's "How To Trim Your Quotes" sticky in the Test Forum was incredibly helpful to me. [read: rudimentary computer skills plus rudimentary on-line forum skills equals "It's a typewriter/post office with a Tooltime Tim engine attached, innit?"]

i would love to see a similar sticky on how to insert a link within text or some info on attaching photos in the Test Forum. i see these repeatedly come up.  i haz fail when it comes to that, my own self. [:o]

LadyPact -> RE: Suggest a new forum (1/12/2011 10:59:51 AM)

We actually do have a forum within a forum.  There are many things that you can learn about using the forums themselves by reading the Administration Announcements.  The Test Forum includes a sticky at the top about how to properly trim quotes.

When the ability to add a picture to a forum post was added, there was a thread in this section on how to do it.  Now that you bring it up, it would probably be a good idea to add that as a sticky to the top of the test forum as well.

Just about anything else, the users of the site usually know the answer.  The Mods have been really good about answering any question that I've posed in this section and will also do that through mail.

Welcome to the forums.

ETA - There must be a monkey on or in My brain.  LOL.
