Saw Plant with a killer band on Trio or whatever about 12 years back... killer

Check this out - Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scotts (this is only one of many songs he did that gig - seriously worth searching them out. He doesn't use a pick - just his fingers. I had a friend copy the whole show for me. Just amazing.

That's Vinnie Colaiuta on drums - once played w/Zappa - he's my HERO.

He did duets with both Page and Clapton at Ronnie Scotts. Seriously, some of the finest stuff I've ever heard, and I'm jaded. Look for them.

I saw Led Zeppelin at their very first show in the U.S. in Boston in 1968 or 9 I think at a place called "The Boston Tea Party" an old converted church on Berkely st.
I'd be lying if I said there were 100 people there.

Shouldn't that be against the law...?

Sounds like the headline might be a bit out of context.

Here's part of the original Rolling Stone article: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/robert-plant-opens-up-about-led-zeppelin-reunion-failed-follow-up-with-alison-krauss-20110106

Unfortunately, the whole article is only available by subscription.

I saw Robert Plant and the Band of Joy last summer in Miami. I have pics at work if anyone is interested.

I thought that guy was dead.

DesFIP -> RE: Robert Plant says he can no longer relate to Led Zeppelin (1/10/2011 5:53:16 AM)

Considering some of the music he did is now over 40 years old, I'd be surprised if it did still mean a lot. Hopefully he's done other things with his life that mean more. I remember having my first crush that many years ago. At the time, it seemed like heartbreak. Now? I can barely remember his name or why I thought he was so great.

GreedyTop -> RE: Robert Plant says he can no longer relate to Led Zeppelin (1/10/2011 6:02:26 AM)

Kali.. thanks!  What an adorable pic!!
I wish I had seen Band of Joy.. couldnt make it though.. but it really was (despite the name) a break with what LZ had done.

My understanding was that Robert wouldnt reject the idea of working with Jimmy et al again.. just not so much AS a Led Zep thing.

Celeste..for Led Zeppelin fans. the music is ALWAYS relevent ( personally, I find their stuff timeless in lyrics and music)

It's a very sad day....even Robert Plant grows old.     I can applaud his decision though, have you ever seen great performers who try to relive their glory days?   It's hard to watch the icons, attempting to find notes they used to hit with ease.   Frank Sinatra comes to mind.

Ok, now Im depressed, I grew up listening to Zepplin!   If they got old...that means I did too!

I'm not the same person I was five years ago - at all. I would be surprised if in another five years this time period seems equally alien. Given that, I'm not at all surprised an artist can't relate to what they did forty years ago. From what I've seen, artists either grow and change or stagnate and rehash embers of their glory days. Better to be a different person altogether than a ghost of what was.

I have never been to a concert before but i would've paid good money to see them play. The level displayed on some of their songs would be hard even for some of these younger artist to replicate.

Termyn8or -> RE: Robert Plant says he can no longer relate to Led Zeppelin (1/10/2011 3:59:20 PM)

Well you can have some hugzz, but this is not the end of the world. He has changed, who doesn't ? I was sick of Zepplin for a number of years, but not now. Thing is, no matter what I don't listen to the same music I did twenty years ago. I don't play the same music either. My taste has changed.

It's not a death, it's a growth. That remark about soon needing help across the street means nothing. But think how old he is now.

I liked music, later I find that rock is alot more international than I ever thought. Then I find out that hey, I was 14, this guy was living in limos and had really made it at the time. He was an accomplished enough musician to really make it before I even drove or screwed. Doing the math, I'm 50 now, how many is that ?

IIRC Alex Harvey was 53 when he died. I guess you could say that was untimely, but back then I was surprised at how old he was. I think Page is older than that. Really, this might be uncomfortable, but it is not a bad thing. Let him do what he wants, play elevator music, retire, whatever.

Time passes.

Plant is smart. He knows he just can't sing that stuff anymore. He's letting the legend live on intact rather than ruin it in an attempt to make a few bucks. I applaud him for that. He is/was the greatest rock singer of all time. (IMO) He wrote the book on how it's done. No one can take that from him.

Did you know that if you put Robert Plant on a Ferris wheel and spin it backwards he will corrupt your mind by singing evil Satanic verses?

If there's another artist from that era who's been involved with as many stellar and just downright fascinating side projects as Plant over the last 30 years, I'd sure like to know who it would be. They could make a documentary about everything he's had a hand in since Zeppelin crashed and burned.

I just hope the sonofabitch finds enough time to get back to "Honeydrippers, Volume Two" one of these days, damn it. I've been waiting 26 years, and none of those fuckers are getting any younger, ya know.
