PA,

This is why your stance on vaccines and most especially the H1N1 and flu vaccine bothers me: if more people within the community were vaccinated those people might not have died.

I don't want you or your neighbor to get the flu and die of complications... I don't want someone's baby who is too young to be vaccinated to get measles from a kid whose parents have bought into the anti-vaccine hype. Simple measles does kill babies.

These are very real dangers that are preventable.

Herd immunity is a very real way of protecting the population against communicable viruses that we have vaccines for. It worked for smallpox and in this county polio.

While I agree with angelikaJ's anecdotes, here are some statistics.

Note - this was published in 2010, so "last year" refers to "2009"

Summary of a Failed Pandemic

Last year the United States contracted for the manufacture of over 170 million doses of swine flu vaccine. Probably the most significant accomplishment of this website was that we were able to contribute to the fact that only 90 million doses were used in the United States.

Armed with the facts, less than one-third of the US population fell for the fear mongering.

It quickly became very clear that this was in fact a very mild disease that was not going to kill people in large numbers. Yet the projected number of casualties in the US alone was declared to be between 60,000 to 90,000! And the campaign to hype up the fear and force the untested, unproven pandemic vaccine on the masses through any means reached previously unheard of proportions.

Within a week of Australia reporting that the virus appeared to be 40 times less lethal than originally feared, the WHO instructed countries to simply stop lab confirming suspected H1N1 cases, which meant that any and all flu-like symptoms were reported as pandemic influenza, padding the statistics.

STILL, despite this misrepresentation of the facts, last year's flu season turned out to be one of the mildest in recent years!

Since 2003, the official government statistic on flu deaths has been an average of 36,000 deaths per year (although as previously reported, this number is also far from the truth as it includes pneumonia deaths, which account for most of these deaths), but last year the CDC reported only 12,000 flu deaths – a mere one-third of the average!

These cases were also not serologically confirmed to be influenza, but included pneumonia and other flu-like illness, which means the actual number of people who died as a direct result of the flu – let alone H1N1 -- was even lower than that.

See, whenever you see flu mortality statistics, you need to beware that the number includes secondary respiratory complications such as pneumonia, which may or may not have been preceded by a bout of flu. This is sort of a catchall category that has been conveniently ascribed to influenza when, oftentimes, that's just the precipitating trigger.

Now, typically, one of the common mechanisms of death as you get older is respiratory infections. The influenza doesn't actually kill the person, the secondary pneumonia does, and it does so because their immune system is too compromised, whether due to age or underlying poor health.

Either way, the fact that last season's flu mortality statistic was a mere one-third of the average should serve as a valuable eye-opener to anyone who may still be panicking at the mere thought of the H1N1 swine flu.

Key WHO Pandemic Advisors had Financial Ties to Vaccine Makers

This was perhaps suspected, but when the World Health Organization finally released a list of its pandemic advisors, it finally confirmed that at least five of the key players who influenced the phase six pandemic declaration indeed had financial ties to vaccine makers.

As we now know, our tax dollars were completely wasted on these nonessential pandemic vaccines, and it appears as though financial conflicts of interest between WHO pandemic advisors and the industry may have had a great deal to do with it.

Is it really wise to take advice from people who have a financial stake in the outcome of the decision to declare a worldwide pandemic?

I think recent history tells us the answer is clearly NO!

Your site, Mercola.com... is unaccessible without registering or signing up... always makes me extremely suspect of a site, especially one ran by a Physician that requires such.

Barbara Fisher, interestingly enough, also wrote about the autism-vaccine link.. which has been rejected by the medical community as a lie.

At this point, i stopped looking for the information on swine flu that she reported on. I will also suggest that you remember we ran out of the vaccine and the doses we had were limited to those with the greatest need... by the time the doses were ready to ship, the overseas results were already showing it wasnt as bad as feared.

And next year, when they dont report, and someone close to you dies, it will be you on these boards crying about how they were derelict in their duties to warn and try to protect.

Mercola is a woo flinger of the first order.

Even a cursory glance at the CDC data shows that the novel flu last year killed far mor epeople than usually die from the flu and those extra deaths were in unusual age groups for flu fatalities. If vaccination had not been so widespread the death toll would certainly have been higher.

It is also amusing that any anti vaxxer would make such claims today when the extent of Wakefields fraud has finally been documented.

Unused swine flu vaccine turns into hazardous waste
T Swine flu vaccine left over from the winter 2009/2010 vacination campaign expires these days and therefore has to be disposed. Due to the content of mercury added as Thimerosal (also known as Thiomersal) to most of the vaccines that depending on the manufacturer can reach 25-50 ppm in the vaccine, the left overs have to be handled as "hazardous waste"./
LOL-  I was not injected with hazzardous waste- HAHAHAHAHA

An article almost a year out of date. With no Author attributed. Really pa, are you sure you were born with a brain?

The one link i might have found credible in their related documentation was the Georgia one. Which doesnt exist.

I live in the Lehigh Valley and yes the h1n1 seems to have hit this area hard. At work we've been sent notices urgently requesting us to get the flu vaccination. I have yet to do so but I'm seriously thinking maybe I should since after I returned from New Year's vacation I had a ton of people at work telling me how severely sick they were over the holiday to the point they were bedridden and two local people, both related to two of my coworkers who are hospitalized.

The very thought of getting that ill is just more than I want to heap on my plate.

Wel.... I'm sure I might be considered nutty by some, but I do not take Flu Vaccines either. I also don't discourage anyone from taking them. Being a nurse I get * harrassed * every year by my employer to get the vaccine, but stand firm on that one. I am 53 y/o and have had the flu once in my lifetime. It was certainly miserable, I thought I was dying a time or two. lol, but I just mustered thru it.

I have had other vaccines : Hepatitis B, MMR, small pox and all the usual ones. Interestingly, my small pox vaccine never took. I had it twice as a little one and I have no small pox scar. As I understand it my Pediatrician told my parents I had natural immunities to it, therefore the vaccine didn't take. I don't quite understand it, but that's what my Mother told me.

I'm not much for Western Medicine and tend to avoid it unless absolutely neccesary. I use herbs and acupuncture to treat most of my conditions, spare my chronic kidney disease which I take Western Medicine in conjunction with Chinese Medicine to control it.

As for the flu: I have my Chi adjusted and balanced seasonally thru acupuncture to boost my immune system. < among other things >

I have very little fear of the flu. Hell, I went to Mexico two weeks after the swine flu supposed epidemic, with no fears and no second thoughts of cancelling.
