LookieNoNookie -> I'm (trying to) quit(ting) smoking (1/3/2011 6:02:01 PM)

Here's what I just sent to my doc.....he's a personal bud (comes with being 52)....

"Thankfully this is a private channel….’cause I’m thinking heroin is a VERY good solution.

That or……a script for 175 Vicodins (a day) would be a doable solution.

I could go with 125 Vicodins a day.
  (I’m good with that).

Can we do 75 Vicodins a day and Pamela Anderson for 4 weeks?   (I’m actually not all that concerned with what insurance covers).

Okay….fine…Pamela Anderson (for 4 weeks) and some major ludes?

Okay…just Pamela?"

Good luck...he says puffing on his umpteenth ciggie of the day.

DesFIP -> RE: I'm (trying to) quit(ting) smoking (1/3/2011 6:11:00 PM)

20% of cigarette smokers find it easier to quit heroin than nicotine.

Have you tried Chantix? And good luck.

(I know this probably skips past all the iconic rules but....this is actually an historic document....factually based....between two consenting adults...me and my Doc....a medical guy (It probably fits within some sort of ADA allowance....{but probably not}...anyway....it's just a factual doc...not a suggestion as to drug preference...probably fits in some sort of humor thingie....I'm sure I could call my lawyers and have it fit within some sort of appropriate criterion.

I won't ask.

(But it doesn't truly seem all that out of the ordinary).

Mods.....this is a big January 1 kind of thing....some humor is good...but so is the shit that goes with what others may have to offer....can we let this ride?

I think some may have something valuable to offer here.

My Mother just quit smoking after smoking for over 35 years. She used ecigarettes. Seriously. Look into them. They worked for her and she was the most stubborn smoker ever!

chiaThePet -> RE: I'm (trying to) quit(ting) smoking (1/3/2011 11:24:05 PM)

Chantix.

Had a few listed mild side effects.

Smoke free for over four years now.

Except when my Dominants set me on fire.

FR

Never quit. You want to stop then stop. You are free to light up for the rest of your life (usually) and you may do so at will. Go not have the will. Why do you want to quit ? Because they tell you it is bad ? If you did not stop apparently you do not believe them. Either that or you do not care. Make up your mind.

It is all a daily decision, day by day, hour by hour, second be second. YOU decide. Each time you want to partake you say no. That is when you really beat it. And that will not happen until you decide it is time for it to happen. You have to say no because you want to say no. Nobody will ever convince you.

Want aversion therapy ? Just say so.

What Termyn8or said.

I tried quitting for years unsuccessfully.

But then, 4 years ago almost to this day, I stopped and I now struggle to see what the attraction was.

The bit that made all the difference was that on the attempt that worked, I actually, really wanted to stop. If you really want to stop, all those Jedi mind tricks nicotine plays on you will fail.

Remember The Cat's Eye ? It was like Creepshow, a series of a bunch of stories, in it a high power "gangster" either dies of lung cancer or someone he knows, something like that. So he turns his entire organization into an army. You enroll in their quit smoking program they got aversion therapy. And they watch you, hide in your closet and all that. You get caught smoking and they throw a cat into an electrified cage, and it dances around for the obvious reasons. They tell you that next time they will throw your Wife in there, and sure as shit they did it. After a subsequent failure, they cut off part of your pinky finger. At the end of the story there is a dinner party and the people there celebrate their freedom from smoking with a toast, and as they raise their glasses you see that each of them has part of their pinky cut off.

But my aversion therapy should be much more effective. Get a recording of a baby crying, actually screaming. Make sure it is of high quality and make sure you have good speakers. Play the recording at maximum volume while you smoke. Do it religiously. In time your mind will associate the cigarettte with that sound and you might just be able to kick the habit.

As a side effect it can also cut down on teen pregnancy.

I agree with hertz. This has to be your own choice and not one made from guilt or outside pressure.

Having a cigarette is no longer an option because your no longer a smoker. Don't let your body try and trick you and remember that craving only lasts for 15 seconds.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: I'm (trying to) quit(ting) smoking (1/4/2011 4:23:39 PM)

Sweet JJ... I got nothing. My dad quit cold turkey, I quit cold turkey. I still get the mad desire to buy a pack of cloves and smoke them all (DAMN I LOVE CLOVES) but I don't do it.

If YOU really want to stop, you will. It will suck, I guess. (Neither of us really missed it) Or, just say fuck it and smoke. Life is what it is. Do you enjoy your smokes? Smoke, then.

>>>>>ALLL MY FRIENDS!!! I still want you all to stop smoking, because it is expensive, stinky, and I can't be around you when you smoke. It is also bad for you, in a variety of ways. But it's especially stinky. So quit, mmmkay?

TribeTziyon -> RE: I'm (trying to) quit(ting) smoking (1/4/2011 5:33:11 PM)

You reach a point or a place where you decide to quit.

My brother died of lung cancer in September of 2009.

I got the H1N1 followed by pnuemonia that October.

I was so sick for about a week that smoking was the last thing I thought of.

By the time I could smoke again, I thought this is it,

I just hung on and here it is 14 months later smoke free after puffing for 25 years.

I still have an odd crave- but they are less and less.

You'll know when it is time.

It has to be for you and your own free choice.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: I'm (trying to) quit(ting) smoking (1/4/2011 7:20:23 PM)

Your OP is not so farfetched, my friend. I quit smoking cold turkey in 1982 & 2 1/2 weeks later I was run over by a car. They gave me lots of morphine for a couple of weeks & the worst of the withdrawal passed. The next month & a half, I was in a wheelchair & taking codiene, so couldn't get to the store to buy any. Besides, I had the narcotics. By the time I was able to get out & get them, I no longer wanted one that badly.

Of course, I don't usually recommend this as a quit smoking program, just sharing what worked for me. [8D]

Lol!  I eat when I'm craving, so that definitely helps.  But then the focus is not to overeat.  :p
