New pension law could force municipalities to raise property taxes 60% While most emphasis has been on Speaker Madigan's pension reform law setting up for later retirements and less cushy pensions for new firemen and law enforcement hires, little attention has been focused on the shift in pension fund pay=in burden that local city councils argue will now suddenly fall on their already cash-strapped budgets.  Chicago's Mayor Daley blasted the reform bill Quinn signed on Thursday, predicting it will cause Chicago to hike its property taxes up to 60%. /snip

If you live in another state-  your turn will come.    ...60% increase?  Yay!   We love high taxes!

So, you don't think that pensions that were promised as part of a pay package should have to be paid?

IMO only Goldman should get them.

Nice evasion, but care to answer the question?

Do you want 60% higher property taxes?

If so- then happy days for YOU.

You are again trying to divert from giving a direct answer to my question.

In case you forgot, let me ask it again.

Do you think that pensions that were promised as part of a pay package should not have to be paid?

Who has managed this money?  Why is it MY problem if they did it wrong?

Did I not tell you that people were robbed of their pensions?

Happy shit for a  numb skull populace.

I really dont care about pensions... I have silver... which has no counter party risk.  No fat finger flash crashes.  Why should I pay before people support the federal reserve.

I wont.   Period.

Why should those people who earned those pensions lose out?

pahunkboy -> RE: New pension law could force municipalities to raise property taxes 60% While most emphasis has been (1/2/2011 9:31:48 AM)

Good question for the managers of said money....

rulemylife -> RE: New pension law could force municipalities to raise property taxes 60% While most emphasis has been (1/2/2011 9:33:26 AM)

My question only required a simple yes or no.

Which you have yet to provide.

And, in the meantime, fuck those who did what they were supposed to do and were promised those pensions. Got it.

When My grandfather retired as supt of a textile mill, the pension fund had been so looted that his entire retirement that he had paid into since he was 18 amounted to $14 and change every month.

Good thing he made some good investments huh?

pahunkboy -> RE: New pension law could force municipalities to raise property taxes 60% While most emphasis has been (1/2/2011 9:43:45 AM)

Throw the guy who looted it in prison.  Easy fix.

tazzygirl -> RE: New pension law could force municipalities to raise property taxes 60% While most emphasis has been (1/2/2011 9:44:27 AM)

How is that fixing the fact that the pension money is no longer there?

pahunkboy -> RE: New pension law could force municipalities to raise property taxes 60% While most emphasis has been (1/2/2011 9:49:57 AM)

PA real estate taxes in my area can not be raised any higher-  not per state law.  It would need voter approval.

We are at the max here.

What does that have to do with the topic? People were screwed out of pension plans right and left. Maybe, just maybe, if the voters took more interest in what was happening behind the scenes, instead of their own personal wallets, this might never have happened. Then again, it probably would have. Its criminal that no one is being held accountable. HOWEVER, those who are due their pensions did nothing wrong. They should not be penalized. Yet, even they are by the tax hike. See how that works?

pahunkboy -> RE: New pension law could force municipalities to raise property taxes 60% While most emphasis has been (1/2/2011 10:01:36 AM)

taxes should be cut by 60% not raised 60%

Breathe deeply taz, this is all part of the game.
