And how much of that paperwork is created by restrictions on, and regulation of, controlled substances, Tazzy? I should be able to take a prescription to any damn pharmacy I want to, be it the big one here in town, the 24 hour one that is right on the way home from my office and the ER/Urgent Care, or the little independent one within walking distance of the house.

As Cali pointed out, you can have each prescription you get at a different pharmacy. Its the transferring to a different one that is the target of the new law.

well I am just thankful that we are not slaves like the people in pakistan and their pals who can just walk in and get anything they want over the counter without a script.

Thankfully I live in a country that supports FREEDOM!

no doubt. But, who is our most transient population? The elderly. What group has the most prescriptions? the elderly.

Certainly is not drug dealers or pushers who are phramacy shopping.

So, like the rest of our so called "War on Drugs", it will cost a bundle and be totally ineffective.

Its a bandaid over a gaping wound, stopping nothing with its pretense of helping many.

What she didn't point out is what that is supposed to accomplish.

The argument is that it increases safety by decreasing mistakes with transferred prescriptions.  From what I understand a large percentage of prescriptions are verified with the doctor anyway for the simple reason that their handwriting is ineligible.

And if we are talking about electronic transfers then where is the potential for a mistake?

The only purpose to this law I see is that the major pharmacy chains lobbied a notoriously pro-business legislature into looking after their interest in monopolizing the market.

Same thing, basically, that i posted about, rule. Most pharmacies dont have time, or the man power to verify with a Dr. If its not legible, the nurse in the office, or secretary, gets the call, they look up the information, and verify it that way. That rarely happens these days.

My cousin, who has a Doctorate in Pharmacology told me the transfers go elctronically... whats in her system is what is sent to the next, no further interpretation is needed or required. So, if at Wally World, im getting a scrip for 100 Vicodin, to be filled each month, and prescribed to be taken 3 times a day as needed, then when its transfered to Lucy's House of Meds, it says the same thing. If an error is made, its typically made on the first prescription filled after receiving the original scrip.

I see this law as a way to prevent people from shopping for meds with price containment in mind. The deals to transfer your prescriptions will be reduced. But the backlash can be to vacationers and the elderly... the later group especially.
