Termyn8or -> RE: Man suing email spammers (1/2/2011 1:19:14 AM)

Actually kc, that is an interesting topic in and of itself. Other than the occasional keylogger and bank fraud, how do people who write virii and malware get anything out of it ? They attack the widest platform (Windows) for the maximum effect. Before considering where the money goes, consider where it comes from. McAfee's, Norton's, them guys right ? Those places are the major port for the intake of money. So who writes the malware, the virus ? You think programmers who can easily make a hundred grand a year legit would waste their time ? I certainly wouldn't. Somebody is paying them, and my guess is it's people who have money and a vested interest in the propogation of the problem. And somehow miraculously they find cures for these problems, quite swiftly in fact. So swiftly that you need constant updates. So swiftly that you need to "register" and pay. Note the word pay. This guy induced you to pay that guy. Who is ignorant enough to not think that they might possibly know each other ? That perhaps they are in cahootz ? I run with nothing but popup blocker. Even Windows can't find itself. Nothing can, updates are off. My shit still runs. Despite the fact that I had a problem recently, because that was tracked back to a faulty RAM stick. It cost me nothing to fix. McAfee would have scanned and found 11,223,870 infections, wasted my time "curing" them all and nothing would have changed. Norton would have found 55,834 malwares and spent hours removing them and the end result would be the same. Except for the fact that they would have my money. Y2K anyone ? In 1999 I set my PC to IIRC this year, when the day/dates coincide. Guess what, nothing happened. Fear sells, but I am not your average customer. I ran for years with absolutely no antivirus, antimalware, anti anything and not even a firewall and guess what. I have files that are almost old enough for the army. The problem with spammers is that enough people bite to make it worthwhile. Apply the same logic here as when the PC did not exist. If they call you they are selling. If you call them you are buying. Works on the phone, works for junk[snail]mail, works for door to door salesmen. Guess what, it works on the internet as well. Was it P.T. Barnum ? "There's a sucker born every minute". T
