hertz -> Nominations for overall best TV show of 2010... (12/26/2010 3:10:40 AM)

Three categories only, to keep it simple.

1. Best US-made TV show of 2010.
2. Best UK-made TV show of 2010.
3. Best TV show made in any other country of 2010.

We can maybe follow this up with a Poll at the end of January (midnight on the last day of January, all time zones) - I'm happy enough to spend time keeping tabs.

We need some basic rules:

You can make a maximum of two nominations for each or all categories (that would be 6 nominations if you nominated two shows for all three categories).

You can only change your nomination by edit of your initial post. Think carefully before nominating!

A maximum of four shows for each category will go through to the final Poll. In the event of a split vote for any of the places, this could mean none go through for that place. (For example, if the first nomination gets 20 votes, second nomination gets 19 votes, third nomination gets 18 votes and the fourth nomination is split between three shows getting 15 votes each, then only 1st, 2nd and 3rd go through to the Poll. All the nominations for fourth place will be discarded. This will protect the final poll from an excess of choices.)

Programs run on computers. You're thinking of Pogroms...

Oh, hang on, that can't be right...

Yeah, it's all your fault. You're just pissed, because I didn't give Australia a category of its own...  [;)]

LOLEDIT: Canada, even...

I second this motion. We watch almost zero TV, but we recently fell hard for this show having discovered it slightly after the fact, per a friend's recommendation, and we can't WAIT for Season Two..

Yes, I agree with:

Boardwalk Empire
Sons of Anarchy
Spartacus

I will add:

True Blood
Mad Men

hertz -> RE: Nominations for overall best TV show of 2010... (12/27/2010 4:45:38 AM)

I'd like to second True Blood and add Glee as a nomination for best US-made TV show.

angelikaJ -> RE: Nominations for overall best TV show of 2010... (12/27/2010 5:07:01 AM)

Terriers was the best show nobody watched.

hertz -> RE: Nominations for overall best TV show of 2010... (12/27/2010 5:09:19 AM)

So far, UK noms are Mongrels, Misfits, Downton Abbey and Sherlock.

US noms are Spartacus, Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Mad Men, Sons Of Anarchy and Glee.

True Blood has two nominations and Walking Dead has three.

Lost Girl is nominated in the 'other' group.

We need a couple of rule clarifications.

The nationality of a  TV show will be determined by the country of origin stated by imdb.com. In the event that the show is not listed by imdb, then the nationality will be determined as being the same as the nationality of the main production company for the show.

Seconding is not required for a nomination to be accepted, but note that it is unlikely that a show which has not been seconded will go through to the final poll.

I have allowed Sons of Anarchy although in the light of the rule above, it was an illegal third nomination.

MercTech -> RE: Nominations for overall best TV show of 2010... (12/29/2010 11:31:39 AM)

I'll second "Lost Girl" for an award. One of the most refreshingly different shows I've seen lately.

Does "Sherlock" count as they only made three episodes? For UK, I still think the new Doctor Who series at least deserves an honorable mention. How about "Being Human"? I enjoyed that one. I wish they would bring back Primeval.

I'm still trying to think of any U.S. made television shows from mainstream television that I've enjoyed over the last year. Most of what I find enjoyable was from pay television and not mainstream.
Spartacus, as it was made overseas for a premium channel, doesn't really seem to fit the bill as a U.S. show to me. Same for "True Blood"... premium channel fare so exclusive to most viewers.
I can't think of a single mainstream show that was worth taking the time to schedule on the DVR with the exception of CSI and NCIS.

Now, my nominations for "worth taking the time for" in pay viewing are "Eureka", "Sanctuary", and "Dollhouse".

I'll also put in a vote for Boardwalk Empire.  Three of the reasons that made Me think it was a cut above the rest were it's additional footage that was shot to show the history of the city, the sets, and the costumes attempting to be as realistic to the period as possible.  Steve Buscemi is doing a great job in the leading role, even though he doesn't match the physical description of the character he is playing.  Definitely making up for the lack of height in other areas and I've really enjoyed his performance.

hertz -> RE: Nominations for overall best TV show of 2010... (12/29/2010 1:49:44 PM)

Now you've said Steve Buscemi, I'm going to have to find an episode to watch...

PyrotheClown -> RE: Nominations for overall best TV show of 2010... (12/29/2010 1:53:52 PM)

Breaking Bad was excellent, and this year. Can I count that as a nomination? Please? I've used mine up!
