This was at a mall that partially burned down a couple of months ago and they struggled to get as many stores repaired as possible in time for Christmas shopping. The flash mob were on the second level, and according to the newspaper, there were about 5000 of them in a fairly tight area. Someone complained that they felt the floor moving, and because of the ongoing construction, the mall authorities decided to evacuate rather than take any chances.

Soldiers walking over bridges are taught not to march in formation because the rhythmic vibration from marching in step will collapse the bridge. I can easily see 500 people stamping together causing the same problem.
