Status: offline 		Chatting with my lovely and awesome sister-  she said she has come to conclude that men are very territorial.  They do not want others in their house.   This came up over talk of her furnace should be serviced- but it more less has to be hubbies idea- rather then her just calling the service guy direct.
(it will work out- I am sure) If it were me- I would just call the furnace guy and tell the other half- I had done so.  Rather then hand holding- and taking the chance of even an hour with no heat.

I had not considered men more territorial then woman.   What do you think?  Are the sexes evenly territorial?  Or is one sex more so?

I suspect being territorial is an individual thing, and often, situational.

Status: offline 		I am VERY territorial. and last I checked, I am an innie, not an outtie.

I do not think it has to do with genitalia,, just preference.

I very much try to stay out of their idiosyncrasies.   He is a good bread winner. He works alto of hours- the kids and her are well provided for.

She said- he is more likely to take out a bill on a new furnace - then to repair the one there. If I recall-the unit is not old- so most people would consider it too soon to replace it.

A female friend in TX- once said she felt safer when a male was in the house during a storm.  That perplexed me-  as she is like age 40.  To me a male in the house- would be a wash in a storm. Neither a plus or a minus.

Woman can be fiercely territorial.  I once visited a buddy that we had to rake the carpet to make it look "right"... as she would have been upset.   I am like- come on now.

I always thought the sexes were about the same.. in territory tho it comes out in different ways.

I would say that men are generally more territorial than women but not necessarily within the home.

I guess, to some, admitting a weakness is seen as more damaging than any strength can make up for.

Yeah-  Jims old place the furnace was 40 years old.  It was wasteful- but still did the job.

My sister is not in a hurry for a new bill- because they are doing remodeling before the baby comes.

Status: offline 		I suspect that being territorial has more to do with personality than gender. I did a quick search but didn't find anything to convince me otherwise. I only have personal experience to go by.

As far as the furnace goes, I do my own repairs, but call in the experts for a replacement. Otherwise I don't get the warranty.

Status: offline 		We've always called the garage my dad's playroom.......he's not too bad about it being his territory, but if you use something, man, you'd better put it back EXACTLY where you got it from, or he will raise holy hell!  The man has every tool Craftsman ever made, and probably some they don't...he has his tools from when he was in the Navy, and from when he worked at Kodak.  I look at his workbench area and can't find a thing without looking for 20 minutes, the man goes out there and goes right to it.  He has 4-5 of the big red rolling double decker tool boxes, and one whole wall of pegboard with hanging stuff too.  I think mom said they insured just the tools in the garage for $50,000...more than the total of everything in the house!

Status: offline 		A man wants to know what is going on with his territory. Let him know you are calling to have the furnace serviced and ask if he has a preference on who. Shucks, he may have a buddy or relative in the biz that he would want to give the work to.

Status: offline 		It just makes him feel unmanly that he can't do the service. But if it's a gas one, he shouldn't even get near it. Making a mistake with one of those could blow up the house.

Speaking of which, The Man went to do some work, discovered that there are no shut off valves on my propane tank. WTF! A 500 gallon tank and they didn't think maybe it might need to turned off? Anyway, the tech came and installed it, said my furnace is fine but the heater in the detached garage needs servicing and we need some specialty valves if we do what we're thinking of.
