Beer, cookies, steak, and cigarettes.

My neighbor and I were reading some of her health books from the 80s.  I was amazed at how things have evolved.

DMFParadox -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 7:48:23 AM)

Starches, milk/eggs, meats (includes high protein nuts and beans), planty things that are NOT starches.

Probably mangled that.

LadyPact -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 7:49:29 AM)

Cigarettes
Diet Pepsi
Pizza
Chocolate

(What?  You can live on it.  [8D])

I think the food pyramid is a total joke.

Old George Carlin joke:

"Salad is not food.  Salad is what food eats."

I don't think there are a lot of vegetable lovers here apparently..[;)].

I think it's a joke sort of too hunky, I try and eat organically and healthily. At least 50% of my diet is vegetables, and not canned ones covered in butter and salt, I mean raw spinach, tons of fresh salads with a variety of dark leafy greens and simply dressed with a good quality olive oil and some aged balsamic. Add a little really good danish blue cheese and a few olives or sardines and that is a perfect lunch. Then a large part is comprised of fish, mainly salmon or shellfish. Oysters topped with some mignonette is one of my favorites too. Maybe 20 percent or so for healthy fat like avacado and omega 3 rich fish, and animal protein, mainly chicken and lean red meat.  Lots of good red wine and for indulging some kind of assorted cheeses and really good in season fruit.  I love to cook and entertain and since my man is diabetic health is always a focus.Oh yeah and tons of water.

For naughty times, I love the occasional peking duck from my favorite takeout or a big fat juicy rare cheeseburger. Yum :) With salt and vinegar chips!

LadyPact, I like how you think!  Sadly, pizza isn't on my pyramid, because I can't eat it. [sm=river.gif]

My genuine 4 groups: animal fat, meat, fruits and vegetables, full fat raw dairy.  And cigarettes. [:D]

LadyP,

in her books- was a food label from that era.   reading it was comical.   "corn syrup".   NOT HFCS.

Amazing.

Hillwilliam -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 8:21:40 AM)

Barley
Yeast
Hops
Water

Actually, the four food groups is a construct of the American Dairy Association.  They used it to differentiate dairy from meat products.

And I agree that the food pyramid is ridiculous.  I'm an engineer, specializing in graphic representation of information, and the pyramid is a good example of how to present data in a confused manner.

hlen5 -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 8:32:56 AM)

Butter, sugar, bread and cake.

(Seriously, Meats, inc fish, poultry and eggs, Dairy, Fruits/vegetables, and Grains, and oils)

When I try hard to eat healthy, I try to have half my plate of fruits/veggies (greens included), one quarter protein, and one quarter carbos (preferably complex).)

hertz -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 8:35:42 AM)

Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Bread

I dunno if those are the four food groups, but they are almost certainly the most well-known.

I thought the food groups were stuff like Proteins, Fats, Carbohydrates and Sugars.

You poor, poor girl!  I mean that in all sincerity.  Do you mind if I ask why?  My first thought was that you might be lactose intolerant, but considering your list, I'm wondering if it might be due to the crust.

Aynne, I actually do love certain vegetables.  I've never met a piece of broccoli that I didn't like and I happen to think it's fabulous that most stores carry cleaned and cut vegetable snacks.  Cleaned baby carrots in a bag is one of the best conveniences as far as I'm concerned.  I'm not a fruit person and I can't say that I think I ever will be.

I cut a huge majority of junk food out of My diet a few months back.  Pizza is something I just can't give up entirely and I will indulge in chocolate from time to time.  After play is usually where I'll bend the rules on that one, especially if it's got Me riding the endorphin wave.  [;)]

pahunkboy -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 8:48:58 AM)

I like to keep celery, carrots, and the like onhand to much on.  I may eat the junk food- but I try to have the produce first-  if I am still wanting a snack after that- THEN I may have the junk food.

Aynne88 -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 8:58:16 AM)

Lady P absolutely! I love pizza, especially after some wild romping fun [;)]. I try to eat healthy mainly to be a good influence for John too with his past eating habits and the diabetes, I know how easy it is for someone to be tempted by snack food, so it's easier to be healthy when you are looking out for a loved one that is diabetic.

Like since tonight is Saturday we will splurge and either get takeout from Suzuki's or Cafe Miranda, which has awesome pizza and the best fried artichoke and pear salad it is to die for! Oh and martini's of course right? [;)].

The only thing that I don't care at all about is candy, I never had a sweet tooth, but he does, so I have no problem being strict about that. I can smell a twizzler 50 feet away...lol. He tries to hide it now and then but between me and the dog, we unearth them every time!

LadyPact -> RE: name the 4 food groups w/o looking (12/18/2010 9:22:49 AM)

Sounds awesome!  I know I'll be indulging a bit tonight Myself.  I just love kinky Christmas parties!  I'm pretty sure I'll be burning off the extra calories.  [;)]

Oh I adore vegetables!

They're what you use to mop up the gravy that goes with huge slabs of dead animal [;)]

In all seriousness, I've reduced significantly the amount of red meat in my diet over the last 2 years. Not for any perceived health benefits (coz I can't feel any, but then again as a smoker I doubt I would do), but more I think coz I got seriously into Indian/Asian/Chinese cooking, and for various reasons there's less red meat and more fish, shellfish & vegetables in those cuisines.

I'm just waiting for my Focaccia to prove, then I'm going to start tonight's dinner; a laksa [;)]
