More like the only reason he posted it.

I am still trying to find out if he is posting these topics using his confirmation bias or his ideological blinders.

I can't get an answer.

I do it because I find it entertaining and interesting to watch people exercise their illogical and emotional states.

To watch people squirm in their own hypocrisy, and occasionally, because it allows a decent conversation rather than simply play-ground screams.

I'd prefer more of the later than the former, but many people are just stuck in the first zone.

The fact that America tortures and condones torture is old news. I don't mean old rumour, I mean old news. Confirmed and admitted, at least a year ago, and several times since. This latest tidbit isn't really news, sorry!

hmmm, this sounds suspiciously like "It torture when Bush and the Republicans do it, but not when Obama and the Democrats do it."

Because solitary confinement is exactly the same as drowning and beating prisoners.

Extended solitary confinement is far more damaging and long lasting psychologically than waterboarding.

You have a citation for that or is that just something you made up?

I do not define it as torture, and have you ever been to Mannheim, Leavenworth or Ft. Riley?  That sort of military treatment is common shit.

I'm wondering if  you've ever been to any of those places.  I was stationed at Leavenworth and worked in the USDB.

It is not "common shit".

His lawyers should be finding a judge and reminding the prosecutors of his right to a speedy trial.

You are obviously not in the least bit familiar with military law or the courts-martial process.

KenDckey -> RE: Obama Admin Responsible for Torture? (12/16/2010 8:27:18 PM)

I went to visit the Sgt of the Guard at the Stockade in SF.   LOL   I walked in and was immediately put on my tip toes by 2 really big MP's    My friend laughed his ass off.  They were just playing with me.

~FR

Military law is different than civilian law. Manning is military. Those in Gitmo, for example, were not.

There is a huge difference.

Are they keeping him confined for his own protection, or to prevent him from gaining knowledge of what is going on with Assange?

But, upon signing up with the military, he gave up certain rights. He has a lawyer, he needs to access the military justice system.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama Admin Responsible for Torture? (12/16/2010 9:37:39 PM)

As I've seen the reports, Tazzy, he is under suicide watch. That makes the propaganda piece Firm posted very disingenous in describing Manning's status as solitary confinement, and then talking about what solitary does to people getting it elsewhere. He is being watched, by Marines, 24 hours a day, and he is never alone.

I'm sure it's a very awkward place, and I'm completetly ok with it. He needs to be held to account, before we really put his ass in a hole.

tazzygirl -> RE: Obama Admin Responsible for Torture? (12/16/2010 9:40:32 PM)

Suicide watch, which i was not aware of (thank you Rich for that info) is a whole nother matter. If that is the case, and from what i find in google it is, his stripped bed and room, lack of access to other prisoners, and lack of media are well founded.

Correction.. They only did it to 3 guys..not 3 times.. I really don't care either way though.

Indeed, no point letting facts get in the way huh.

Ah a troll, who would have thought it. Nice excuse though.

Don't get me wrong, Rich.  I've no special sympathy for Manning at all.

Nor do I think Greenwald is an author of repute.

However, how do you think some of our brethren lefties would react if he were a member of AQ, and "Boosh" were still President?

Aneirin -> RE: Obama Admin Responsible for Torture? (12/17/2010 5:35:24 AM)

Oh shit having just initiated and posted a thread regarding military torture up in the general BDSM section, I come down here and see another thread running on it. Worrying as all I can think, too many reports coming out which does not bode well for either society at large, or us, kinksters. Or on the other hand, the reports are telling the truth of us as a people, we are just plain nasty to our own species, something which perhaps sets us apart in the animal kingdom, in which case which species was supposed to be the most intelligent ?

( BTW, I expect my thread to be booted out of general Bdsm soon, as is usually the case with me, but I really thought about that post)

How about the obvious corollary to that one:
Did you give a toss about the conditions under which detained prisoners were held when the chimp was still in power, or is this yet another case of "anything to diss the Kenyan with" from somebody who's still sulking because Sorebutt and Barbie lost the election the other year?
Come to that, why are you citing an article written by an author you don't think is a reputable source in the first place?
(Where you get the brass neck to complain about anybody else's ideological blinkers, I can't imagine.)

flcouple2009 -> RE: Obama Admin Responsible for Torture? (12/17/2010 6:06:43 AM)

You are such great entertainment.

The problem being to have a discussion YOU would start by wanting a discussion.

You posted an article written by someone whose reputation you call suspect.  Then you try and bait people into some type of emotional display.

It's sad really but I've always held that the reason you run around yelling about the alleged bias of others is to cover your own.

I'm sorry you didn't get the display you wanted instead of the pointing and laughing at you.

No worries, Firm. I figured you knew exactly what you were posting, and I completely agree that yes, had this been under Bush II's watch, the haters would have thoroughly ignored the flaws in the reporting to embrace yet more hatred of him.

Just what I love to see...a cartoon that could have just as easily been called "The Liberal Conundrum" simply by...
a.  Having a conservative president

b . Putting a picture of whoever the conservative president is on the T-Shirt and putting a statement like "No more tax hikes" on the other T-shirt

Thanks, lucy.  I really do like those statements and illustrations that work just as well for both sides of the ideological fence.
