Miley Cyrus and the bong

Status: offline 		Like most people I watch the news and the "miley cyrus" scandle has popped up. I did a google search (how else would I know) about the drug salvia that she supposedly smoked and it wikipedia said it wasn't illegal in the US so my question is, whats the big deal? is the fact she used a bong or the fact that she used a drug?

Salvia is illegal in LA and a couple other states, IIRC, but there are no Federal laws. I've tried it. It's a true psychedelic unlike any other. It can also be deeply spiritual.

Good for Miley.

the fact that she would become corrupted from a drug, a boy, alcohol, whatever is deemed bad is hard for a lot of parents to accept. They can no longer look to her as a role model for their kids.

Personally I think she's a teenager. Teenagers do all kinds of stupid shit. We all did. I expect teens to do stupid shit so it never ever surprises me. I'm actually more surprised if the don't or when they do something good.

I'm not a fan, or even vaguely interested really, but typing the letters h-a-n in Google offered me "Hannah Montana" as the first prompt, with almost 23 million hits. It's a product targeted to children, and she is hitting the bong, and obviously high. That's going to be a problem for some people.

This has all been prophesied by the Oracle of South Park.

Any sort of compare and contrast though, is going to make work for the mods. I try not to do that. You can accept that I'm familiar enough with the subject matter to offer my opinion, or not.

I'll take you at your word. Salvia Divinorum is unique in that the molecule doesn't contain nitrogen, like all other known psychedelics do. It is a kappa-receptor agonist; vitamin K is as well, IIRC. It is a terpene (look in either the CRC Handbook or Morrison and Boyd (other Organic Chem textbooks have the info as well; I'm partial to Morrison and Boyd because that's what I used in Uni))

It is much more intense than any indole or phenethylamine that I am personally familiar with, if one uses a concentrated form (I used 10X). It has been years since I tried the concentrated form, and that occasion was so intense that I probably will not go near it again. I was translated to the house I grew up in, standing next to the driveway, looking at my father's 54 or so blue Chevy 4-door. I was there. This was not a dreamy acid fantasy.

Quite obviously my experience differed.

So it's my characterization of salvia as being "a wimp," that caused you to question what I said? Fair enough. I could have been a lot clearer in how I meant that, but was trying to keep the post from being too explicit. "Breaking the locks on the consciousness box," is pretty open to interpretation.

What's the goal of taking a mind altering substance? If it is nothing more than having something different happen in your head, salvia will make it happen, and it can be intense. The last time I gave it a go, I had the physical sensation of rollers moving sideways across my body, before briefly believing that I had levitated to a position about 4 feet above my chair. The experience was slightly unpleasant, and left me with no desire to visit again.

If the objective is more geared to altering how the world around us is perceived, whether for spiritual insight or amazing sex, or just to try and puzzle out what Kubrick was up to in "2001," salvia would be a very poor choice to get you there.

Status: offline 		The reason young people do this other garbage beside's pot is because pot is illegal.It's alot easier for them to get some garbage from their local headshop and put that in their pipe to smoke it.Frankly,pot need's to be legalized,regulated and taxed.I don't agree minor's should be doing it.However,once you get older,it's clearly a much better alternative then this "legal" garbage and is certainly alot better than alcohol.
