I find this odd that the leather folk here are not bakers or cooks; or maybe is it that the Holidays are out of style on this site???

Sorry.   Pondering a buddy who passed away- and a mutual friend who is ??  no where to be found.

3-4 kinds of quick bread, always pumpkin and whatever else strikes my fancy.

4-6 types of cookies.......some decorated shortbread, chocolate crinkles, some sort of spicy molassesy ginger snap or something or other, then whatever I am in the mood to make.

Always pralines and fudge.

Cheesecake

croissants

maybe a pie or two

and was going to do a beef prime rib but that's been voted out

Made toffee chocolate biscotti today. Was going to try a new recipe for chocolate chocolate chip cookies that is sinfully rich when I discovered the teen had consumed all the Baker's semisweet chocolate. Couldn't make my famous peanut butter  blossoms (the ones with a Hershey Kiss in the center) because the same teen had eaten all the kisses. Anybody see a pattern here?

I'm now reduced to hiding the baking chocolate in my closet so I know where it is when I need it.

For Christmas dinner I will make a yule log. Still looking for the perfect filling for it. Might put the college aged one to making meringue mushrooms. Funny enough, she's baked enough with me that she makes damned good biscotti herself. And sold them for $1.50 a piece on campus, earning enough to buy all her Christmas presents for people.

Your ought to subject the teen unit to HELP you bake those Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies as fair punishment for eating those ingredients.

I used to do a lot of baking during the holidays but since the daughter went off to college I'm just not bothering. It would all just go to waste.

i fail at baking unless it comes out of a box, however i am going to try to make Panettone French Toast for breakfast one day. i tried it last year to rave reviews so it's going to make another appearance this year.

i might make some Peanut Brittle though, that always goes over well.

This year for the holidays I am baking  ...

Does making salsa count?

I will probably make some more chocolate-peppermint bark, some more quick breads, and whatever my mother tells me to.

I am also thinking of making some spanikopita, which will of course have me singing "Popeye the Sailors Ghost is Haunting Space Station 5" the entire day.  [8|]

An old friend and running buddy from back in the day will be visiting us over the holidays. We will certainly be baking that night.

Someonne mention French toast ?

Make that big ass bread in a breadmaker, big and square. (slice it good inch thick) Take two or three eggs and soak the shit out of it.Melt a half stick of butter in the pan and fry it up, and I mean fry it. Lower or turn off the heat for the last few minute.

Put whatever you want on it, bacon, more eggs, cheese, lentils, the kitchen sink, whatever.

No room in my kitchen for a breadmaker [:(] otherwise i would totally make it homemade. i got the recipe from William Sonoma website. It's pretty amazing and so rich. i can usually only eat like half a piece.

DarkSteven -> RE: This year for the holidays I am baking ... (12/12/2010 9:59:09 PM)

I'm making several batches of different kinds of fudge, which I will give to the neighbors as a thanks for being awesome people.

TheHeretic -> RE: This year for the holidays I am baking ... (12/12/2010 10:05:38 PM)

Not bad, Termy. My french toast recipe calls for substituting Baileys Irish Creme for milk in the egg batter.

Termyn8or -> RE: This year for the holidays I am baking ... (12/12/2010 10:12:54 PM)

Yes but I digressed, the thread is about baking.

How about baked spaghetti ? That is so simple, and has a lowlife quality to it, just hearing the recipe you would think you are going to hate it. But then you try it. Everyone I set a plate of that shit in front of wanted seconds, and gained weight.

I don't know if I should dare publish the recipe in public. Basically it is slop. On par in essence with hamburger helper, but it is so fukin good. I blows all their shit away.

Don't accuse me of  blowing my horn here, I did not invent it.

I love to cook so for me it's not just the holidays.
Fudge, peanut brittle, hard candy, cookies of all kinds, breads.
I do all the big holiday dinners.
Turkey, ham, potato dishes two at least.
Veggie dishes, two or three.
Homemade rolls, pies at least 4 different kinds.

I'm used to cooking for a large family, but now we aren't all close anymore. So now it friends who benefit from all this cooking.
But I love it so the holidays give me a reason to go overboard.

Happy Holidays to everyone.

Then the cookies will be eaten. I made a batch of these for Thanksgiving and froze them. Thankfully I discovered he had found the bag and eaten them all in time to make another batch.

But if he's baking, it's pecan shortbread. Those are his favorite.

I think that you need to invest in tuppertainers with locks.

Or maybe write on the bags with a Sharpie, "If you touch or eat these I will pay Guido to break your fingers."
