Ireland proposes 90% bank bonus tax By: malterwitty
Tags: ECONOMYEUROPE Irish Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said on Thursday he would impose a 90 per cent tax on bankers’ bonuses, in a move to try to silence critics who have said the banking sector drove Ireland into the ground. “As far as the future is concerned I do propose to introduce the amendment to the finance bill to put this matter beyond any doubt and provide a high rate, a 90 per cent rate of charge on any ... bankers’ bonuses,” Mr. Lenihan told local radio.

Excellent idea. We should all do the same thing and make sure the bastards have no-where to hide.

We did that song and dance here, shamed a few into giving them back and once that was out of the spotlight, they paid them.

Werent the conservatives in the US holding the vibrance of the Irish economy with its low taxation and great business climate as a taunt and a hiss to liberals in the US, that if only we would listen to the chosen, we too could be bankrupted moreso than we are now?

Except our savior is China, not the EU.  So, I suppose that is the out for them.

They were.
And of course, most US companies seem to have their UK branches based in Dublin (rather than somewhere that's actually in the UK) so they don't have to pay as much tax. I suppose it's convenient if you'd rather drink in the temple bar than Soho.

I'm lost, we're all lost this side of the pond when it comes to this, here is where I thought you blokes drew the lines:

England is England
add Scotland and Wales you got GB
add Ireland you got UK.

Or isn't that any more correct than your US based rioting news reports?

Moonhead -> RE: Ireland proposes 90% bank bonus tax By: malterwitty Tags: * ECONOMY * EUROPE Irish Fin (12/10/2010 2:17:54 PM)

Northern Ireland is part of the UK. That's the part the noble puritan Cromwell (who I'm told is a bit of a role model among America's lunatic right over that "beheading the King" thang) took over. There's more to it than that, of course, but Cromwell seems to have done a lot to stake the UK having a claim to Northern Ireland. (The term "Ulster" is fashionable with the Fenians, as Cuchulain was a local boy from up there, and beat the shit out of most of the rest of ireland in the course of The Tain.)

Everything else is Ireland, and while you do get people down there providing financial support for the Republicans in NI, I don't think most of Ireland really wants the place back. They're all nuts up there, and a lot of them are Scottish presbetyrians imported by some bloke from Holland a while back. Northern Ireland is not the same country as the Republic of Ireland, which is not and never has been part of the UK.

You are quite correct as I understand Ireland has the lowest corproate tax rate of all of those...that have corporations. Something like 12.7% I think. That really created just a whole lotta jobs and really helped their fiscal position didn't it ?

Yep. And as everybody can see, their economy is ticking over just fine at the moment...

Yes we are The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. (Twinned with Novaya Zemlya)

Well by whatever name you denote them- Gotta love the Irish!

I read one proposal was 99%.

I think there is more anger there in IE then in the UK- via the student riots.

I've never seen so many police, the risk assessment forms must be stacking up back at the office.

I suppose it's a lot easier for you to argue from ignorance. That's something you have plenty of to draw on.

Well isn't this post- abit like a cheer for Oligarchs.    Fancy you all bloody from blood on your hands via your role in the economic collapse.  -  and it is YOU this is un-informed-  the Irish are furious and we have not seen the end of those fighting Irish!

You watch.   Ireland will go the way of Iceland.   Remember those awful Icelanders who dissed the IOU banking system.

Friend- either you are with us- (peons) or you are against us.

Your ball.

You don't realize almost everything, so you should read up on that.

The major banks are de facto insolvent. Bonuses result from double accounting. I would eliminate double accounting rather than making the government  part of the fraud.
