with enough warm bodies, I dont see why 9 seconds is unreasonable.  thnk: slaves.  Slaves that were only valuable as long as they were able to work.

You may not have a firm grasp on the full scope of such an undertaking.

They estimate each of the great pyramids may have as many as 2.5 million stones each weighing 2.5 tons a piece. Moving these the great distances on possibly boats down the Nile and across land, up ramps ever increasing in height/distance/incline and set into place every 9 seconds for a period of 22 years. Not to mention the quantities of oil, manpower and everyday supplies it would take to pull this off is more than staggering.

I'm not sure how it was done but I'm fairly sure it wasn't done in the time-frame they say or in the way they say it was. Who knows.

Forgot to add this lol..All with such precision cutting that a knife wouldn't fit between the stones.................seems kinda magical don't it!?!?[:D]

GreedyTop -> RE: Explain to me (12/5/2010 3:51:30 AM)

I do find it magical....

and I am totally open to the ideas of *extra help*

just playin devils advocate ;)

Yep, aerial view!

oh, sure it's possible, but what I don't like about alien theories is it seems kind of disrespectful.  I mean why wouldn't those people be able to do it?

No additional help required. I think we've gotten so used to using machines we have lost the imagination to think of any other way of doing things...

SLAVERY.....................It Gets Things DONE

sunshinemiss -> RE: Explain to me (12/5/2010 6:27:45 AM)

I thought that there was an excavation that showed that the Egyptian "slaves" were actually paid workers.... where did I read that?  Found it...

DesFIP -> RE: Explain to me (12/5/2010 8:03:27 AM)

I watched a This Old House many years ago where Norm Abrams built a pyramid using only ancient building practices. He accomplished it, thus proving that it could well have been done 3,000 years ago. Additionally you don't need a machine with 450 horse power if you instead use 450 horses or whatever number of people make up that same amount of power.

I think people compare our predecessors to ourselves when in reality we are not as strong as they were.

Modern man relies on technologies. We don't rely on our own bodies to do much labor. We have cars that drive us where we want, planes to take us hundreds, thousands of miles, we have computers that map out the science and numbers for the architecture or alignment of the stars and we don't eat nearly the same way ancient man did.

Our makeup is completely different from them. They accomplished these feats because they had the manpower, they had the muscle and stamina for it. Their bodies were made for hard laborious work. Ours....not so much. Our's don't need to be.

I think we give ancient man a huge disservice by thinking they could not have possibly been able to do what  they did.

Our strength and condition of our bodies really have very little to do with it. There are many in today's world who have said that even with the aid of modern machinery they can not reproduce the precision that many of these megalithic stones were cut with in ancient times. Let alone mention the grand scale on which it was done. Historians say the Great Pyramids were built in a span of 22 years. One scientist broke it down in terms of the number of stone needed and the time span (as given) that the Egyptians would have had to place one stone every 9 seconds. With ropes, camels, elephants, and 1000 grunts pulling on those massive stones, there is no way they could have done that. Not without some kind of help as of yet unproven or discovered.

I've also seen an old man and a string line do better work than a crew with lasers.

We often rely too much on  machinery and technology rather than skill and craft.

Sweet. What a sight that must have been.

I always have a little trouble when people use words like disservice and disrespectful..It to me implies we shouldn't ever come up with alternative or out of the box ideas.

I don't take away from anyone but I don't mind adding to. The thing is with most of history...we can get close on some occasions and may even get it right..but there are just as many if not more times we are doing nothing more than guessing. That to me is what's wrong with some scientists these days. Most come up with an idea in their head and run with it as truth.

Take the find you've posted about. He found a small amount of people that were buried and now slaves are out of the question in his mind because "he doesn't think they would bury slaves in that fashion"..Out goes the science and in comes speculation which is then passed off to the public and quoted on websites which are then linked in discussion.

It becomes truth in peoples minds because this guy is a trusted in his field.

Why couldn't it be that those people went above and beyond in their service and were honored? Why not that they were in fact paid workers who worked alongside slaves?

I think it's possible that it could have been built by man alone, of course, but there are still issues..Like time-line, tools used, the precision of placement of each stone and even the precision placement of the pyramids themselves..which hasn't been brought up yet.

A lot of questions need to be answered.

Termyn8or -> RE: Explain to me (12/5/2010 10:59:39 PM)

John, again I tossed aside all the responses and reply now to the OP.

The hubris of the human animal makes us tend to believe we are the biggest and baddest, while realizing the our height on the food chain is supported more by intellect than physical traits. But regardless of all that...............

What makes you think we were the first ?

I mean really, people believe in all kinds of shit, ghosts and whatnot. How hard can it be to accept the fact that it is very possible that our current "civilization" on this planet had been preceeded by another ?

In my book I played that motherfucker to the hilt. In it 400 or so years from now they actually find Atlantis, but then they find that there is something UNDER Atlantis. But that's fiction, but that's something. You cannot say for sure that another civilisation existed bwefore our's. On what would you base that assertion ?

So really I am not disagreeing, if there was help involved, why would it have to be extraterrestrial ? When our current society send envoys and whatever to the inner parts of Africa or wherever there are primitives, they don't know all about us. Fuck us, they don't care. As long as we don't bother them.   If I were an advanced being, whether human or not, able to do things beyond our current science, I certainly wouldn't make it public.

I would either be totally hidden, or hidden amongst you. Looking and acting the same yet in possesion of the means to take over the world. What others would do with that power is their own business. Luckily they're stupid enough that we don't have to worry about them.

It is now my considered opinion that the previous cultures and/or societies that existed in the past destroyed themselves, and I think the same thing is happening to us. ,What's that about history ? Learn it or repeat it ? Pretty much.

So yes, I think there were probably times in human history we got some help. Not necessarily from a God, but from whoever could, that had superior knowledge and or technology, or something, something that we didn't.  However most people automatically assign to that, that they were from another planet. I do not.

In fact I still believe that there is a higher society than our's on this planet. Able to hide from the best of the best in discovery. Yes. Perhaps able to manipulate the energy/matter problem. Teleport, invisibility. I am not crying conspiracy here, but it is totally possible that a more advanced society actually does exist on this planet.

If you have kickass technology you can live a hundred miles under Antarctica in a forest, with Bambi and everything. Once the matter/energy barrier is crossed, we will be near God like. We are getting there and thinking about past societies, what put them down ? Why don't we now live in those ancient societies ?

Something happened, and I would really like to know what. It wasn't any fucking hurricane, volcano or some shitass tidal wave. That might destroy people but it does not destroy a society. There is a difference.

So yes, maybe we got some help. But from whom ?

T
