Boy, that "Breakfast Fortress" thread by MissAsylum really got me thinking!
That's enough breakfast for a week! All your Fat, all your Calories, enough cholesterol to last for two weeks probably!
None of us realistically does anything near close to that everyday! Must be 5,000 calories!
What I'm wondering is what do people in here do for breakfast during the week. Are you a light breakfast eater, or does a huge stack of pancakes and three eggs on the side get the juices flowing?
And, do you tend to have a big (or bigger) breakfast on the weekends than during the week?
And how often do you go out to a breakfast in a week?
Do you have a "favorite" breakfast place?

DesFIP -> RE: Breakfast (12/2/2010 6:47:50 PM)

Whole wheat toast with smart balance and homemade jam.
If we go out, whole wheat toast with two eggs, over easy. I'd rather have them scrambled but the place we go always overcooks the scrambled eggs. I like them moist, not dry.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Breakfast (12/2/2010 7:02:17 PM)

Normally a cup of coffee as I roll into the office.

littlewonder -> RE: Breakfast (12/2/2010 7:28:35 PM)

During the week my breakfast consists of coffee and lots of it. I never eat breakfast.

On the weekends if I'm alone at home then I'll usually make a bowl of cereal or grab a muffin or a pastry or some fruit with a cup of coffee.

If I'm at Master's then he'll either make us breakfast...usually eggs, toast, bacon, juice, coffee or we'll go out to eat somewhere, usually a little cafe or something. There's a few places we like but no one place in particular.

Master is more of the breakfast person than I am. Then again I'm usually just too tired during the weekday to even bother with breakfast since I am up at 6am every morning for work.

Give me good strong black coffee and I'll be ready for the day.

Littlewonder, I do that too.
All I want when I wake up is a large cup of coffee and a ciggy.
A few hours later I get hungry and have a bowl of cereal.

Breakfast = coffee-time.  On workdays, solids include some sort of bread (sometimes homemade) and some sort of fruit. Or pecking at leftovers from the fridge, cold Thai, cold Italian, cold Indian, cold stemmed veg, cold stew, cold chicken gumbo, a couple o' cold cuts and that last pickle maybe. . . i work odd hours so don't bother with delineating types of food by time of day or meal.
When i had roommates, the weekend was totally Epic Meal Breakfast Fortress time.  i'd be out buying ingredients right now for that monstrosity. Now, it's hard to bother as i haven't taught my cat to appreciate or be amused by the potential silliness of human foodstuffs.  Besides, that much bacon literally wouldn't fit inside my body all at once--i'd probably try and be very sorry indeed.
There is a diner across the park that has interesting historical photographs on the walls and service-able chow.   i don't entirely understand their obsession with their super salty country gravy. It comes with everything as a side in a freaking soup bowl.  Do they expect me to sop my cinnamon french toast in that or what?
Lunch-dinner-supper is bit fancier, that's where all those leftovers come from. :)

Hillwilliam -> RE: Breakfast (12/2/2010 7:59:01 PM)

When I lived near the FL keys, I'd go fishing frequently. Then, before I got on the boat, breakfast was a budweiser and dramamine and a sweet roll.

subinlife -> RE: Breakfast (12/2/2010 7:59:05 PM)

Coffee seven days a week for me. Can't handle food when I wake up.

Breakfast for me is usually an egg (either scrambled, sunny-side up or made into a simple omlette with some chives and goat cheese if I have it on hand) and maybe a slice of bacon or a piece of fruit and coffee...2-3 cups.

Nope...same as any other day.

I don't. I'm a good cook.[;)]

I have a couple favorite coffee shops...does that count?
What about a cafe au lait?

Seriously, an egg and coffee works great for me...the protein is just enough to keep my blood sugar happy and the caffeine keeps my brain and ME happy.

Kana -> RE: Breakfast (12/2/2010 8:47:37 PM)

If I'm alone, Frosted Flakes or croissants.
If I'm with the lilone, we fuck, feast, fuck.
It's a helluva way to start the day.

YoungBlondeSlave -> RE: Breakfast (12/2/2010 8:51:25 PM)

i wake up at 3:30am every day to go to work, i don't have the energy or time for breakfast. i don't normally have time to eat until after noon (sometimes not until i get home at 3pm) on days that i work.

Days that i don't work, maybe cereal or eggs and turkey bacon with a potato shredded for hashbrowns...and coffee. Lots of coffee.

thishereboi -> RE: Breakfast (12/3/2010 4:46:13 AM)

When my one friend is not running around the world teaching english, we go out to eat once or twice a week. But she in in Saudi right now.  Other than that, I usually eat at home when I get up. My usual breakfast is a beef and bean chimichanga eaten while reading the forums.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Breakfast (12/3/2010 4:54:01 AM)

I make it a rule to eat the food of the place I'm staying.  So now my breakfast is gimbop (kind of like sushi but with tuna fish), hot anchovy broth, and bean sprouts in hot pepper and sesame oil sauce.  (honest).

On the weekends I go out for a western breakfast - mostly protein and carbs.  I will sometimes skip breakfst, but rarely.  I always have couple cups of coffee as well.

Yeah.  It's good.

For dinner I often have "breakfast" - yogurt with cereal or fruit.

Subinlife, yeah, I'm like that too. I don't understand how people can wake up and then ten minutes later be shoving down a huge plate of food!
I need ~coffee~! Then after two hours or so I can eat something.
I don't really have a favorite breakfast place here. But, the ham egg and cheese croissants at Dunkin Donuts are great and no-one can beat their coffee!
And once in a great while McDonald's will do it for me.
When I lived up in Hampton, N.H. on the beach there was a breakfast place I went to once a week. It's owned by a German lady with a thick accent and she's a real character. In the summer months when the beach is loaded with tourists they'll come in and ask for directions and she gives them a rout that will take them in a circle right back to her place!
One time a lady came in and asked her where should get some crabs, She said; "On any toilet seat on da beech!"
She opens at 0400 and many of the commercial fishermen and a few cops come in early.
When you walk in there's a big box with two work boots in cement! "For da FUCKERS who try to skip out vis-out payin'!
And she makes GIANT omlets and pancakes. I could only eat half of the omlet. And if you could eat three of her giant pancakes they were free. Of course they were so big she had to use a pizza pan for a plate! I doubt anyone got them free.

Marc2b -> RE: Breakfast (12/3/2010 6:51:18 AM)

Peanut butter and banana sandwhich and a glass of metamucil.

And a can of diet cola if I need a bit of caffeine.

poise -> RE: Breakfast (12/3/2010 7:04:01 AM)

For me, a big breakfast in the morning would make me want to crawl back to bed and sleep.
Most mornings, it's coffee and rye toast with cream cheese, cheese whiz, or peanut butter.
I much prefer enjoying breakfast foods at dinner time, or at least late lazy afternoons.

Im thankful there aren't any Dunkin Donuts close by, as there is no such thing as too many
apple crumb donuts! The lack of having one nearby is both a blessing and a curse.

LaTigresse -> RE: Breakfast (12/3/2010 7:12:36 AM)

I always eat something for breakfast. What that is tends to vary but can be anything from a piece of whole grain toast with an egg on top to an apple with a bit of cheese. I try to avoid eating large meals at any time of day. I tend to eat small meals with healthy little snacks.

This morning was the toast and egg at sometime around 6am. (I was up at 4:30). Pretty soon I will be munching the apple I grabbed on the way out the door or a piece of cheese (whatever sounds yummiest when my stomach growls). A cup of chicken soup for lunch then whatever I didn't have, apple or cheese, as a snack this afternoon. Who knows what dinner will be...

But yes, ALWAYS breakfast. Almost always, either a few espressos or my special French Market, coffee/chickory, cafe au lait.

On the weekend I tend to switch to two meals and 3 snacks...

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: Breakfast (12/3/2010 7:16:04 AM)

Breakfast? Used to eat it regularly and within an hour of waking up. It was the routine at home and I had to eat or I'd go woozy. And comments from the peanut gallery? Shup!! [;)]

Now I don't have any fixed time meals unless I'm at my dad's to visit. I usually eat when I'm hungry and that can be once or sometimes, but rarely twice a day. Depending on the time of day, it can be frozen waffles, sausage rolls, chicken or a tortilla with cheese and pepperoni, my own version of pizza. I'm not a big eater anymore and the meds I'm on affect my appetite.

Normally, all I have (and can stomach) is coffee and cigarettes*, but occasionally (especially when it's freezing, like now) I do love a good Full English; eggs, smoked bacon, chipolata sausages, black pudding, and sautéed mushrooms, with a little fried bread.

If I'm going to do that though I tend to do so at the weekend more than in the week, and not more than once or twice a month.

I used to live in Hertfordshire, and The Watford Cafe (guess where it is) is the bestest greasy spoon ever, and they do absolutely the best bubble & squeak in the world. Sadly I no longer live close enough to go, although sometimes, if I'm out for a bike ride on a cold winter's morning, I do pop in for a large plate of everything [:D]
