I like 65% chocolate....   which these days is seldom American.  We wrecked the art.

I've tried that Hershey's stuff and it's crap. Now you bastards* are gearing up to wreck Cadburys as well, which nobody's very happy about over here...

*(Or at least the bastards who own Kraft)

Agreed.   The new candy hardly uses cocoa butter.   So--  to me - it is no longer chocolate.

Look across the North Sea to the Netherlands moon, Kraft is owned by multi-national food conglomerate UNILEVER.   As for the use of cocoa butter the regulations regarding chocolate content, here in the US are under review by the FDA, and looks like they are going to be relaxed to allow hydrogenated vegetable oil in lieu of cocoa butter.

Why is that a good thing?

I thought hydrogenated vegetable oils were a primary source of trans fat.

The new formula is so bad- I took them back to the store and exchanged them for a no name brand that was good-  ie had real cocao butter in.

Wasn't insinuating it is a good thing for we chocolate lovers, it is a good thing for chococlate makers as hydrogenated vegetable oil is waaaaaayyyy cheaper that cocoa butter.  Many chocolate makers are refusing to adopt this formulation; however Hershey is not one of them, so I'll be not buy their products any longer.

Hershey is really under estimating this market.

and there ARE off brands who do make it correctly.

I beg your pardon. I thought Kraft was a purely US owned company. I didn't know that they were UNILEVER's bitch.

I only know it because my favorite Ice Cream Brand "Breyers" originally from Philadelphia, was bought out by Kraft, and then I saw a few years later that Kraft Foods was acquired by Unilever.

Looking at the websites of both companies I find no mention of either one on the other's site, but the web pages and construction are too damned close to identical for my tastes.  So it could be Kraft is now an "independent subsidiary" of Unilever, which would as you say make them Unilever's "bitch".

Searchingly,

tazzygirl -> RE: Now It’s Italy: Students Occupy Colosseum, Leaning Tower Of Pisa To Protest Cuts STUDENTS ACROS (11/26/2010 11:15:40 PM)

Kraft has been an independently owned company since 2007. Buffet's company owns 8% of Kraft.

In 2000, Philip Morris (renamed Altria in 2003) acquired Nabisco Holdings for $18.9 billion and merged the company with Kraft Foods the same year.[9] In 2001, Philip Morris sold 280 million Kraft shares via the third-largest IPO of all time, retaining an 88.1% stake in the company.

In 2004, it sold its sugar confectionery division to Wrigley, while doing minor divestitures - including its hot cereals division (Cream of Wheat) in 2007, its pet snacks division (Milk-Bone) in 2006, juice drinks and Fruit2o in 2007 and some grocery brands in 2006.

Altria announced on January 31, 2007, that it would spin off all the remaining Kraft Foods shares to Altria's shareholders; each will be given approximately 0.7 share of Kraft for every Altria share they own.

It's not a good thing. It's a fucked up thing that is going to let companies pass off that waxy brown crap as chocolate. And everyone is getting all up in arms about a few body searches at the airport when our chocolate is being threatened. Haven't they ever heard of priorities[8D]
