Malkinius This is the first thing that crossed my mind - that it would cost money to do these checks and right now this is a free site. So what do you want OP? A free site or one that verifies information? Even if the verifying didn't cost money in and of itself, it does cost in manpower to do it, and the site runs on whatever manpower they have at the moment...they'd have to add more. It's kind of like when you were little and you wished there was a money tree so you could get the toys you desire, but then you grew up and found out that you had to work for things like that. You have to do the work yourself for everything- so get to work [:)] That is said in the nicest way possible, it is frustrating to be disappointed but there will always be people out there that hurt us, cheat us, or just want to get whatever it is that floats their boat without a thought to what happens with the other person. That exists everywhere and you have to develop a BS detector at some point after the age of 5.

Maybe the site could help by organizing or separating the sought after relationships in more neatly defined segments. Examples would be Pro Doms, seeking play partners only, seeking 24/7 live in slaves, seeking ltr D/s, etc. It doesn't address the fake issue per se, spammers, nor does it root out dishonesty but it would eliminate some confusion in the search. I am always seeking new friends and play partners but I often find folks obscure their financial requirements from their profile.

They're doing you a favor by letting you sort it all out yourself.

Given we spend much time and money and energy on this chosen path I can see spending the money and time getting this certification, easily. I have said repeatably that there should be a bdsm card like a drivers liscence and that to get it you would be required to have an STD test and that you would have to take a test on different aspects of play, aftercare etc. However as was pointed out to me by the heads of my local munch group. No one would do it because people would lie, and there is too much of a concern about privacy.

Plus having textbook knowledge doesn't translate into real-life good practices. Think about how many people have a driver's license and then cause wrecks, drive drunk, etc. Knowing what they should do and doing it are entirely separate matters.
