It doesn’t surprise me at all.
This country has a fairly grim recent past and just picking up the pieces from a long Soviet invasion
Imagine living in a country which had just suffered a 9 year conflict. We are just picking up the pieces when along comes a much larger force and BOOM.
Many of these people are peasant farmers. They don’t have access to worldwide media, mobile phones or any other modern gadget that we have in the western world.
The only access they have is to government propaganda. Why wouldn’t they believe that this is a war against Islam?
