MM- the comment about scientists being liberals was in a recent issue of Science this year. It'd take me a while to dig out the issue, so from my perspective, it's not worth it. Note- engineers are much less liberal than scientists and are much closer to the political mainstream. In terms of why- here's my guess. Scientists are futurists- we're driven by imagination. People who become scientists want to change the world, to leave it a better place. I just heard a guy running a company now making thermoelectrics make this comment to a bunch of business guys. He freely admitted that was a big driver for him- but so was the money. Conservatives are happy with the status quo- liberals think it can be improved. Hence, scientists are liberals.

Plus scientists like to see evidence . . .

All right

I dug out this article- there's plenty on the 'net. While not as stark as the statistics I saw- it may be more accurate. The breakdown for those who don't want to look at the link-56% of scientists see themselves as liberal, 42% see themselves as independent- and 2% conservatives.

Music, I agree with that.
But, scientists have to start realizing that us Taxpayers out here don't exist to be giving them money all the time.
Research grants have gotten out of control over the last 30 years just like any govt. "program" does. They need to start "producing" something for the "dreaded private sector" instead of dubious results for govt. beaurocrats.
And foreign countries shouldn't be expecting the U.S. to,....."take the lead" in everything! It's way past time that foreign countries started paying for themselves. I no longer want to pay for them and I'm not alone out here.
Europe and Israel should be handling Iran, not the U.S.
But, liberals are addicted to Taxpayer's money

What makes you think any of that is the case?

You are attitude run amuk, without regard to fact.
