Your ignorance regarding Canada is something you might want to look into. Im certainly not here to educate you.
Would you like to make assumptions that my country of origin has done nothing to celebrate in the past 100 years too?
be part of the solution , not the problem..

For the second question…does it bother anyone that young Hispanic students were evidently complaining about and maybe harassing this boy who was innocently just displaying the flag of his country?

That's not how it happened.

On Cinco de Mayo, some students complained that other students bringing the Mexican flag "disrespected" the U.S. THIS is where the bullshit should have stopped--those complaining students should not have been indulged. It's a fricking holiday. Learn. It's school!

THIS incident is pissed off adolescents dishing payback. And given the context--you can see why (from a kid's perspective). Of course, this also could have been used as a learning experience--it's Veteran's Day.

Nobody harassed him either. The kids bitched to a supervisor, who asked the student to remove it.

That the adults are no smarter than the children is the disturbing part.

Though all this, apparently, took place outside of the classroom.

Last I knew Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday, not an American holiday. THAT is where the bullshit should have and needs to STOP!

Last I knew, in a free country, people could openly celebrate their culture while still being proud to be Americans.

THAT is where your bullshit needs to stop.

The school supervisor made a dumb call which in turn allowed the same dumb supervisor to be outwitted by a 13 year old on Veteran's Day by spinning the previous call. It's the kind of shit you do all the time. You just need a dumber audience.

You would not get a gold star in my school, though I would give you credit for knowing that it was a mexican holiday. Now if you could only understand that teaching a child about another country and their holidays does not take anything away from our own country, in fact it makes it stronger.

It does? Then how about Haiti? Everyday is a "holiday" there.

This past Halloween two K-5 school Principles in Rockville MD (where I live) took it upon themselves to replace "Halloween Party Day" with "Celebrate Fall Day" because the parents of 5-10 students (out of 350 +/-) at each school had expressed cultural and/or religeous objections to same. Rockville is a sanctuary city.

Strangely google has nothing about this and neither does an old friend with kids in the rockville public schools.

Obviously you aren't Google literate and your old friend is ignorant. Either that or you're simply lying.

http://www.gazette.net/stories/10272010/chevnew213211_32545.php

Where precisely is the reference to "Celebrate Fall Day"?

Just out of curiosity LucyLastic, what exactly has Canada done in the last 100 years except stay in the background? Hell most of the time i never hear anything about Canada, then one day i hear the country's name and i am like oh yeah that is a country in the world. Wonder where they have been.

Well the ones I know personally are kicked back enjoying life and watching their cousins to the south as we turn politics into a three ring circus and try to see who can out do who in the blame game.

Well, I can't give them everyday, but just for you, I will have a couple days where the kids can learn about the country and perhaps hold a fund raiser to send something down to the kids less fortunate. After all, you do want your kids to understand the importance of helping others, right?

Boi, you'd be wasting your time and money.
With all the money that's been poured into Haiti over the last 25 years everyone down there should be very well off financially but they're not because their govt. is one of the most corrupt in the world.
They simply divert or more correctly "steal" any money that makes it into the country and it ends up in Swiss banks.
Look at "Baby Doc" Duvalier, former "president" of Haiti. He's in France now with a reported $675 million U.S. dollars that he stole while president and with the full knowledge of Bill Clinton. Wow, the job of "president of Haiti" must pay really well to be able to accumulate that kind of money!
You may have missed it but "Hatian Officials" a few months ago held ambulances at the airport until "duty fees" were paid on them! They were donated by U.S. Taxpayers of course but they wanted Customs fees on them!
So go right ahead and have a cake sale for Haiti, you'll be helping to pay for some corrupt official's Mercedes Benz or villa in the south of France.

Actually, its a regional holiday in Mexico... and its celebrated more in the US than there.

This is the "ending" of story of the boy from Denair.  The school reversed their decision and he was given a huge escort to school on Monday by a group of California veterans, all displaying flags.
