I would have never known that teabaggers is an insult to the Tea Party, since I also see them wearing teabags brimming their sunhats at the rallies.  Either they're as ignorant as me on this "insult" or too much is being made out of the name.

Those tea bags have nothing to do with the sexual innuendo, but with the Boston Tea Party.

It took a perverted mind and a desire to be crude and demeaning to try to associate the sexual act with the organization.

Perhaps acceptable in terms of personal interactions among members of this particular community, but not with the wider political discussion in the rest of the world.

Oh okay. I rarely heard them being called anything but either the Tea Party or Tea Baggers when I was paying attention to them. Figured they just hadn't known what the phrase meant.

It's not their ignorance on display.

Taxed
Enough
Already

"Tea baggers" is a sexually laden, intentional insult, so people who use it identify themselves with a certain bias.

Teabagger

Just want everyone to remember there were no bags only tea at the Tea Party and that the Tea Act being protested lowered the price of imported tea. The animating principle of the protesters leading up to the American Revolution was not taxes were malum in se, but that they should not be taxed by unelected representatives. Also keep in mind that some of the founders the latter day tea people now revere were horrified by the Tea Party and demanded the British be reimbursed.

No matter what you call them they are all still republicans. I love to hear people going on about "I wonder how the tea party will do". The Tea Party? There is no such a thing. Its just a bunch of republicans that are trying to re-brand themselves like they are a new variety of box cereal......Complete with cartoon figures - Sharon Angle, Sarah Palin, etc etc etc......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I think its quite comical DYB. The tea party strike me as Republicans who want to move the GOP further to the right than before. They will spend the next two years tearing themselves apart, just as the Labour party did here. Dont any of you listen to Palin and Angle, that is, when they decide to give interviews instead of hiding from the camera. Do any of you really think they are capable of running for President ?

Sure the economy has made Obama look bad, but the reality is he didnt have much of a chance to fix it in the first place. He did manage to stabalise things and stop the rot though. What gets me is that the Tea Party in particular seem to think the only way for a quick fix is to withdraw from the worlds stage. Isolation may seem like a great ideal but in a global economy it will be Americas downfall in the long run.

Sort of.  They are a subset of the GOP, pretty much.  Their financing is from the same folks who bankroll the GOP.  However, a lot of their voting and grass root support comes from people who are fed up with both major parties.  If and when the Tea Party electees vote alongside the GOP, then the sparks will fly.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Hilary Clinton (11/3/2010 4:24:37 AM)

Yes and the DLC is a subset of the Democratic party but do you hear them going around and calling themselves a party? No. Its a branding exercise done well by the Republican Party to fool the many poor souls that seem to fall for such things every time.

People here are scared and worried overall. The Republican Party does the best job of packaging our problems into nice neat little answers that can be used as slogans. People like nice neat little answers that aren't complicated. They will be sorely disappointed by the republicans/tea party. For instance they are going to have to either close down the government , ie default or raise the debt ceiling next year which is something they pledged they wouldn't do....We will see where the rhetoric takes them.

Yeah, when they came up with that "Hope and Change" thing that swept them into the White House the GOP really pushed the slogan thing too far.

You and Patrick are a special breed of hate that is so blind to reality its pathetic.

How'd it go for Texas?
