Vancouver_cinful -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 7:37:20 AM)

I never lie about my age, simply because I can't be bothered to keep track of lies. Oh, and all the math that would be involved...yuck.

I have to say there is no way you can tell anyone's age just by looking at them. A person who has worked outdoors all their life, or had a rough life of drugs and poverty will not look the same at 40 as someone who has lived an easy, healthy life.

Lots of things can age a person. Worry, children, poverty, disease... And there are ways to keep looking young, as well.

Genetics also plays a role in it. My mother looks 20 years younger than she is, and her mother at 94 yrs old, would give a lot of 80 yr olds a run for their money. Most people don't believe me when I state my age, either.

Given that, yes it's common for women for lie about their age because our society cites women who in their teens or their twenties as the only ideal of beauty. ::rolls eyes::

By the way, since I don't play with men under 40, I can tell you that many men have tried to lie about their age in hopes of getting lucky. It works both ways.

Personally I don't feel age is as much an issue until you reach 40 when it really becomes an issue for women.

Crap....does this mean that I am nearly 4 years overdue on having an issue? Wish someone would have informed me so I could have gotten it over and done with....I really hate being late for anything.

Ah dang, and I was sure I was even happier, sexier, and having way more fun than I could have even imagined in my 30s. I must be wrong.

Guess I didn't get the memo on developing an issue...7 years ago. [:D]

Life begins after 40, I say!!

Why would you judge someones age from their photograph in the first place?  That seems to be the jest of the question.  Huntme is claiming she lied because of the photograph.  I have played around with cameras a lot in my time. You can make people look a whole lot different then they really are.  For one thing it is a two dimensional plane verses a three dimensional plane most of us see in.  Some of the best photography models in the world actually look very plain in real life.  The camera just sees them different.  You can do so much with a camera, both good and bad that it would be hard to judge anyones age or actually beauty from just a photograph.  <snip>

This is soo true. in photos i can look great or i can look like i died a week ago.
Alot has to do with lighting and make up as well.

As for looking your age. My Dad is 67, though most ppl would think he's in his late 40's early 50's.

When i was a teenager everyone thought i was older. First time i went to a bar i was 15. Granted the legal age was 18 so the age gap wasn't to big but still they never even questioned me. A couple weeks ago one of the guys i work with guessed my age at 25. *g* darn near kissed him lol

Everyone sees something different when they look at another.

I don't lie about my age mostly cause i just can't be bothered. 32 really isn't that bad. Though sometimes i do have to think about it to remeber how old i am lol

Question i have though is, unless you want children, what does age really matter?

Kindred2Evil -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 7:45:48 AM)

My my my...This thread has been an interesting read from start to finish.  It seems that it's bounced back and forth between vanity, lies, age and other things.  I'd like to meet one person who hasn't told a lie.  Men lie, women lie, unmentionables lie, it's the nature of the human beast.  Everyone does it to some extent, either by omission or outright falsehood.  Judging someone because of a picture is, IMO completely ridiculous.  Not one person has ever gotten my age right because of a picture.  In some I look about 20, in others I look about 40.  I don't do make-up except for certain occassions and prefer the natural look all the way around.  Hell, it's a good day when my hair is left down from a bun (which by the way adds anywhere from 5-10 years onto my looks if I add my glasses).
Pictures lie, ask any supermodel what they look like when not on the cover or a mag rag.  Have you never seen celebs when dressed in street clothes without having been primped and fussed over for hours by expensive hair dressers and makeup artists???
The OP says she lied about her age, okay not such a good idea a lie is a lie is a lie.  But who are you to judge this woman?  Have you ALWAYS been totoally honest with EVERYONE?  You know the old saying about glass houses and stones...sounds to me like you've a few cracks in your frame as does everyone else.  Welcome to the human race.

LaTigresse -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 7:46:14 AM)

OHHH, how too funny!!!!!!! In another thread I was wishing a beautiful Domina happy birthday...if I remember correctly she just turned 46. Other beautiful Dominas had written about how wonderful they feel about getting older, quite a few of them were like me, over 40. Now, I read that OMG!!!!! we are supposed to hate being over 40?!?!?! Oh me oh my whatever shall I do?? I am supposed to be depressed about being 43almost44onSaturday?? AND I am supposed to lie and pretend I am what.......24??? Oh HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!  I guess those of us that love all the wonderful things that come with growing older and wiser will just have to be the odd ones then because I know I am not changing my thoughts on the issue and I am pretty darn sure none of the others will also.

MasterC46910 -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 7:50:54 AM)

As far as lying about your age, I lie about mine all the time.

People will ask me "Just how old are you anyway?"

I tell them I am 78

"Damn you look good for 78!"

Makes me feel so good...LOL

Hey...while you're at your psychic gig...can you give me Friday's lottery numbers?

I don't have much to add to this thread because everyone's already said everything I would have said. Brilliant responses, Tasha. :)

OH this sounds fun!  Can we have a "guess my age contest" by our profile pics?  Nobody ever gets mine right!  LOL

I guessed 45, so I was off. ~BK~

MsSonnetMarwood -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 8:03:07 AM)

Like akisha, when I was in my teens, everyone thought I was older.   Now that I'm in my 30's, people think I'm younger.  C'est la vie.

Personally, I want the psychic abilities to know that all these people are lying :-)

LadyArakney -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 8:13:01 AM)

Happy Birthday to you LaTigresse.  My birthday is a week from Friday and I'll be 51.  To Me it's all about the attitude you have about life in general.  I've met younger people who act like they already have one foot in the grave and older people who can teach a few things about how to have fun.  Just be however old you feel. ::making a note to remember that when I wake up the morning after My birthday and having had too much tequila  LOL:::

huntme -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 8:23:23 AM)

When I asked my question I did say I had heard all the usual excuses, yet that’s exactly  what everyone wrote?  “She feels younger, she looks younger, she is more comfortable in the company of younger men, it is just a white lie, men lie too.”  Wow people here really don’t read, jeeeeesh!

It is however amusing that most who have replied condone her lie, even embrace it.  It’s a white lie after all right?  I don’t feel that way, for me it is not a matter of age, it is a matter of honesty.  Either you are or your aren’t!

And as for the picture, well, the Domme who had originally spurred this thread did admit to me that she was older, much older.  I did ask her why, and she was the most honest of all of you here, she simply said “I do it because men like younger women.”   She was more honest with me than anyone here has been.

Anyway, wow people here are way too serious.  When I asked mine I kinda expected the Jack Benny answer, “Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don’t matter.”

Arpig -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 8:40:30 AM)

Jawhol, Herr Doktor Cloudboy!!
Isn't it amazing that you feel you can just define people you don't know...I dare ya to do me next....ain't no way you will ever understand me...Hell I don't, and I've known myself all my life.

cajingrl -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 8:58:45 AM)

I don't know about anyone else, but i'm proud of my age and i've been told that i don't look it, but, what do they know..LOL......i'm going on 53 and very proud of it....i've earned every year of it too....

ClassAct2006 -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 9:16:09 AM)

Men have often lied about their age to me and sadly sometimes it's resulted in my going out with them when otherwise I might not but it's not a good start to seeing someone - a lie and reasonably easy to check once you get to know them. I have never lied. I'm 44. I probably look about 35 but I wouldn't lie about. At this sort of age if you're looking for a long term relationship the woman's age is absolutely crucial if you want a family. 35 - reasonable change. 44  - hard. 54, usually impossible. Of course if you're not after anything long term then the issues aren't quite the same.

I am afraid to give these women the bennefit of the doubt would be to stretch the very definition of the word!  Be real, take a look for yourself?  Oh, and it is more likely that your friend's mother is actually 60 and telling you she is 43.

My grandma looked 70 when she was 40. She was a redhead that spent her time working in the sun on a farm and raising 5 boys. She also smoked like 3 packs of ciggies a day.

Time is not always nice to us.

If you do not like what you see move on to the next domme... I am sure she has many takers because there are fewer of her than there are of you... sorry but it is true.

This is just an aside to this thread.

In your profile you state,

>I recently married my life partner. We are fluid bonded and sexually monogamous. The relationship I have with him has no effect on any relationship I may have with anyone else. <

You are being rather naive to think that extra marital BDSM encounters will not affect your marital relationship or that your marital relationship will not affect your encounters. I understand you may want to make your boundaries clear, aka, that you intend to stay married, lover you husband, and reserve traditional sexual intimacy with him ---

but I think its a lie to call yourself "monogamous" or even "sexually monogamous." You are poly, seeking intimate encounters with more than one partner. If you want to have better more satisfying extra-marital encounters and if you want a fuller more complete/honest marriage, IMO you'd be wise to to pursue a deeper understanding of what poly is all about.

cloudboy.. you didn't read her whole profile ..  she has NO sex with anyone But her marriage but she Plays with her subs ... she is pure sadist no interest in f*cking her sub... you would be wise to finish a profile instead of  reading half and misunderstanding it ... I think you owe her a apology...

The men who told you that you sounded too young were perhpas just being kind, something men do to flatter a woman especially when they know she wants to hear it.  But that is off the point, again I am just curious about why women lie about their age yet expect honesty in retrun.  It is a simple question really.

i think that you somewhat answered your own question here...first you say that men will say these things to flatter a women (even though the flattery itself may not be truthful).  People are human and want to be accepted, while the majority of the people i have encountered have been honest and forthcoming, there are those that will "lie" to get an ends to a means....IF (and i am not convinced they did) lie, maybe it was because they feared if they were honest about their age, body, etc...they wouldn't find what they are searching for...while the lying itself would prevent anyone from finding something true, perhaps they feel that is there only way....the same way you "flatter" (ie lie) to women, these women are trying to "flatter" you as well....

OTKkindaGirl -> RE: Age and honesty (4/27/2006 10:14:27 AM)

i am the most honest liar you could ever meet.  i am ageless and there is no option for that.  *smirkz*  age is a state of mind that it seems only the young at heart seem to know and the wise understand so age has no bearing with me.  don't be so quick to judged based on pics.  the age on my profile will list me as 99 from now on.  i think that should take me out of the having babies catagory, i am no longer a breeding machine so that being one of your reasons should eliminate any others from viewing me with that prospect.  *giggles*  nope, i am no spring chicken, but at my age i do feel 16... ok maybe 18.... no wait... i want to be at the legal drinking age... let's go for 21.  Nope not a liar in the full sense of the word, i do tend to exaggerate,  i can be somewhat sarcastic, maybe even a little bit rebellious in my mischief but when it comes to personal relationships i do my best to keep it real and usually give honesty better than it is given to me.

you targeted a certain age group that for one actually, i cannot wait to join someday... i guess that would be my mid 140's somewhere.  i for one cannot wait for what is generally a mans midlife crisis time is a womans PRIME TIME!!  God's cruelest joke was the separating mans sexual peaks from womans.  i don't know how old you are and i don't know what sex you are..... but in all honesty... you show me somebody that says they never lie and i will show you somebody naive or a liar.  Anybody here ever see the movie 'Liar, Liar' with Jim Carey in it.  everybody lies in some small way or another.  now whether or not the lie has an affect on your perception of your reality or your relationships is strictly in your own hands.  What is or is not tolerable for you only you can tell.  if ones age descrepency is based on appearance rather than fact, then you really need to take a time out and regroup.  for the sake of accidentally finding those that think like you, i will appear the liar.  do trollers come to these boards often?

edited to add that this reply was meant for huntme.... not just Class.
