can anyone tell me what the correlation is between low blood pressure and recovery from concussion following unconciousness.  ive checked it out on the web and there is a correlation but i cant seem to find out why that is or where it stems from.
thank you x

One possibility is: low blood pressure --> unconsciousness --> concussion

Was that what happened?

You don't need a bump on the head to suffer concussion, whiplash will do it. It's why so many football players suffer Parkinsons and other long lasting illnesses as a result of the brain bouncing in the skull all the time. They aren't checked daily for signs of concussion and in fact lie about symptoms they have. Last visit with the teen to the doc and a discussion about being a high school football player.

I'm glad that you weren't hurt worse. But shock itself can do screwy things to the bp. Get some rest. Like for a week straight.

it can take a year to recover from a concussion.

I needed nine years to recover from my concussion.

lally2, do not for the next two months presume to have escaped unscathed. You may still be in shock. Or perhaps the concussion affected a part of the brain that controls the heart.

Makes sense to me.

Good post, LPslc.

I had 6 blows to the head.  It was a long process to get back to normal.

i think i have to trust the hospital team right now.  i cant get to A&E right now and im going to call the doctor tomorrow and ask for an appointment and talk to him about it all.  im going to be feeling dizzy and out of it i think, because of the shock as well as the concussion.

its a bit horrifying to read that people took so long to recover from their concussion -

clip i think youre right about the ear, its ringing a bit (?) and what you explained makes sense - im assuming my brain sloshed against my skull and the fluid pressure has to go back to where it was.

im not nauseus and im not 'out of it' im just feeling 'stoned' a bit, getting up slowly helps.

it bugs me a bit that medical people dont bother to explain anything, they just fob you off with stuff and because i was out of it i didnt think to question them at the time.

this happened on wednesday - so that was four days ago now and  im better than i was.

thank you everyone for chipping in and offering up youre thoughts and ideas, i feel better informed now.  you people are so great - you always come through.  hugs and love xxx

Of the year to recover- it was not like every day was a chore.    More like- weather or stress would trigger the effects on occasion.

lally2 -> RE: question for nurses and such folks (11/1/2010 11:19:51 AM)

well dizzyness is better today and doc says im well within the 'norm' when it comes to concussion and unless symptoms get worse i just need to rest.  i did ask about the low bp and she pretty much said what you guys have said, so they did fob me off in the hospital.  i hate that - being treated like we cant take the facts and absorb them.

thanks again peeps, i felt alot better after knowing what the low bp was all about.  xx

lally, I think you should fill your head with pleasant thoughts :)
Assuming you are under good care first!
If they made the comment on being dehydrated, could it be it was after having oxygen during the rescue?
Now get to bed, relax, and think of me :)
Mike
