The agitation of a washing machine will not be good for cashmere, even in a mesh bag. You want to gently push the material under the soapy water, swishing it back and forth. Then rinse thoroughly, using the gentle pushing and swishing action. Let the water drain out of the sink, leaving the sweater in the sink, then gently push the water out of it (the idea is not to pick it up and wring it out). Lay it on a large clean towel, and roll it up, then gently squeeze the roll (don't twist or wring it). Then unroll it and do it again with another clean towel. Then lay it on the mesh dryer (I have a fine mesh dryer that has nylon netting on it). Gently shape it to the correct shape and size. Cali
