It's a good cause. I very much believe that anything that can be done to raise awareness of this issue is a good thing. But the problem with awareness weeks/awareness months is that is is too easy for (usually) conservative mockers to make some sort of dumb comment about 'political correctness gone mad' or 'are we paying for this?' and ignore the very real facts of the matter. I don't know what the answer is.

I actually, haven't heard any real mocking of this, here, Hertz.. I'm sure it's being done, but not to a degree that it's made the news (that I am aware of...)

I was not physically abused, but emotional abuse was enough to let me know what so many are going through.

I have a friend who is working on LEAVING her toxic relationship, here's hoping it happens in the next few weeks!!

my kid sister was nearly murdered by her ex bf last monday, a week after refusing a marriage proposal and finally breaking off their on again off again live-in relationship. he attempted to strangle her to death in the front yard of our parents home. in discussing the incident with my mother, i mentioned that domestic violence was more common that not these days and she says "i don't know if you'd call that domestic violence". what?! people need to be better educated about what abuse is, in all its forms, and how to prevent it and end it once it happens. we need more than a month, it should be an every day reminder, prevent it, end it!

Moving on, I was a real fuck vis-a-vis my ex. I was not physically abusive. I was occasionally mentally abusive. But my big sin was that I withheld affection. I wanted her to do something, that was only the result of my own Ego. I wanted her to be someone that she was not. And it was my own head that did that.

There is much more to domestic violence than MERE physical violence. There is the injury to the soul. THAT is the crime.
