IrishMist -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/12/2010 2:59:03 PM)

I have a thorn bush that goes around one ankle...got that when I found out I was pregnant.
I have a butterfly directly above the thorns...got that when my daughter was born.
Down one leg is a weeping willow...got that when my husband passed away.
On my back is an orchid and a hummingbird...got that 3 years after my husband passed away...as a means of saying goodbye.
On one arm is a warriors band with a single feather hanging down...got that about 6 years.
On the other arm is another warrior band with the words 'If you must crawl to live; then stand and die' etched into it...got that about two years ago.
On the back of my neck are the numbers 121093...my daughters birthday...got that about 2 years ago.

That's all I have lol.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/12/2010 3:12:54 PM)

I would be seriously inked if I could afford it... and didn't care about my parents' feelings. [&o] As it is, I have my first protective cat, a cheetah face, on my upper back, to be followed by a tiger face and a leopard face (solitary predators). My left thigh has the start of my grandmother;s memorial tat which I think is still on my profile. It will be surrounded by roses eventually. My right thigh will SOMEDAY have hibiscuses and portraits of my late guinea pigs. My right ankle has a little tribal thingy that will be part of a Larger Tribal Thingy at some point.

INK ENVY!!!

littlewonder -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/12/2010 3:41:10 PM)

I have quite a few tats which were all done for spiritual reasons or a memorial to a loved one. I've thought about possibly getting one of them removed in the future simply because when I got it done many many years ago the tat bled a lot and the ink did not seem to stay. It's now splotchy and I think if I tried to get it retouched or covered the same thing would happen again. It just didn't seem to take well for some odd reason.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/12/2010 4:07:16 PM)

I have one tattoo.  I designed it in my twenties and waited until I was almost 40 to get it.  I had it done finally in the Andean mountains of Peru where my heart lives.  It is a very feminine symbol - but not in a delicate way.  It is strong and powerful.  It was while I was living in Peru that I finally felt worthy of the design I'd made.  Sadly, since then, I've stumbled a few times, but the tattoo is still there reminding me even when I forget who I am, she's still there, just waiting...

MrKicia -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/12/2010 4:42:24 PM)

Ive got five tattoos.   Both biceps, both calves and across the top of my back.  Left calf is a tribal sun with my wifes initials inside of it.  Right calf is a design i liked.  Left bicep is a band, another design i liked.  Right bicep is a Griffin.  On my back is a Latin phrase that says "Live free or die."

I still like them, dont plan on getting rid of them.  I try to keep mine in places that can only be visible if i want them to be.

PyrotheClown -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/12/2010 7:27:47 PM)

got mine to represent my Bum knee in character, plus I can make'em giggle if i wiggle my knee

slaveluci -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/12/2010 7:30:33 PM)

My former husband is/was an excellent tattoo artist and I wanted some of his work on me. I chose a design I wanted and he sketched it out, adding his own personal touch to it. It's about the size of a splayed out hand and is on the front of my left shoulder. It was beautiful when he did it and it remains so. I doubt I'll ever remove it. Master doesn't have a problem with it. We discussed a cover-up at one point and still may do it eventually but neither of us thinks it's necessary. It's a pretty tat and doesn't hold any emotions directly tied to my ex anymore so why not just leave the beauty displayed?

inked, I have a skull on my chest that a group of fellow rangers got it was our bond that no matter where we go, what happens to us, we will always be brothers. I have danny on my right arm, my name but also my fathers name, he had the same tattoo and it's my rememberance to him. Next is the eagle on my back representing my love for this country I served. Then there is the dragon on my left shoulder, it represents power and I like dragons. And finally my triba with dragon heads that encircles my left bicep. Dragons for power the tribal that's there and goes into the pit represents the pain I've been through in life.

I LOVE IT!!!!! Just curious.... how long did it take?

tzr6977 -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/13/2010 10:21:35 AM)

I have a tattoo on my back, just above and to left of my right shoulder blade. It is an irregular shaped heart with the American flag as the fill. This was done for 2 reasons.
1) Because I have wanted one for awhile
2) It hides a scar I have there.

itsmeinLV -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/13/2010 4:19:16 PM)

Haha, I hear you on that "could afford it" comment, LadyHibiscus.  I've been saving up for a couple years now for a dragon head, body, claws, and tail that will stretch from my neck to my thigh.  "Things" keep coming up in life, haha.

LilMichele -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/16/2010 9:47:20 AM)

Mine is a little corny.  Got divorced a couple of years ago and I'm a single mom raising two boys with not a lot of help and to be honest - i'm terrified sometimes.  So the big star is me, the two smaller ones are my boys, and it's on my foot to remind me to keep going and put my best foot forward.  I wear flip flops a lot (yay Florida) so i do look at it sometimes and smile at what it means.

(holy crap that's huge! Like big foot big...)

poise -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/16/2010 10:45:49 AM)

I love the inspiration behind this tattoo. Not the divorce or the struggle, but the motivation factor.
Thanks for sharing!

switch2please -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/16/2010 11:02:46 AM)

Money's not really an issue for B, it's just finding time for appointments that also fit the artists' schedule... I think the big one took about a year, with a couple 12-hr sessions to get it ready for a tat convention in London last year. His sleeves aren't in that pic, but they're both new in the two years we've been dating. He got very inked very quickly.

Carouselambra -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/16/2010 11:44:32 AM)

I have a Baphomet on my right shoulder and the four Led Zeppelin symbols on my lower back.

My tattoo of Baphomet wards off all potential partners who are religious. By getting this tattoo, I jeopardize myself socially, financially, and emotionally (most men are not particularly attracted to a woman with the "symbol of Satan" on her back). Why? ...It's quite obvious. I am a sadistic, Devil-worshiping, evil sociopath, right?

TribeTziyon -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/16/2010 6:42:14 PM)

Very sweet and lovely LilM,

LilMichele -> RE: Explain the tattoo (10/17/2010 9:07:53 AM)

Thank you :)  Thank you to poise, too.

Next I want a fairy, but a squished one, right on my butt.  Like I sat on it.  No meaning there except maybe that I'm a smart ass that likes to laugh at absurd things.  But like someone else said there's the money factor and finding a good artist, so that one can wait for now.
